Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the prompt. First, the writer describes the training course clearly as an 'advanced IT program' in their town that teaches various IT systems and record-keeping. Second, the company's help is explained through requests for adjusted working hours from 8 AM to 3 PM and reduced responsibilities. Finally, the usefulness of the course is well-articulated in terms of improving work efficiency, keeping office database records updated, and communicating with clients without phone calls. All parts of the task are addressed with relevant and extended ideas, fully satisfying the requirements for a Band 7.0.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter maintains a clear logical organization and progression throughout. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose such as introducing the course, requesting company support, and detailing professional benefits. Cohesive devices like 'As a result', 'Also', and 'Overtime' are used to connect ideas, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive in their positioning. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and referencing between sentences is generally clear, leading to a solid Band 6.5 performance.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, with attempts at less common lexical items such as 'work efficiency', 'professional image', and 'valuable knowledge'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text. For example, the writer says 'Recently, I come across one course' (instead of came across), 'provide my in-depth knowledge' (instead of provide me with), and 'various apps through I can contact to our clients' (preposition and article errors). These lexical slips prevent the response from reaching a higher band, placing it comfortably at Band 6.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical errors are frequent throughout the response. Examples include tense inconsistency ('Recently, I come across'), article misuse ('the advanced IT system course', 'generate highest revenue'), and awkward phrasing ('makes me free for my part-time course'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they disrupt the flow of sentences and indicate that control over complex structures is still developing. This aligns well with the Band 6.0 descriptors.
