Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to request you to give me a permission for a training course that will be helpful for me as well as for the company.
I have seen an advertisement for a training course for coding. It is in Canada. I am interested in this course because it focuses on the advance and the most recent technology. This three weeks course will teach me new techniques of programming as well as how to creat an application and a website. They also will provide one to one training and I think I will be able to learn more during this period.
I am requesting you to give me permission to go the Canada and grant my leaves for three weeks. I will hand over my pending work to my collegues. Also, it would be greatful if you could sponser my trip because it will be benificial for your company.
In the company we still focus on traditional method of coding which is time taking. After this course I will be able to creat interesting websites and apps within a very short period of time. I will be able to teach these techniques to my co-workers.
I am looking forward to hear from you soon. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Kruti Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all three bullet points required by the prompt effectively. You clearly described the coding training course in Canada, which lasts for three weeks and focuses on recent technologies, applications, and websites. You also explained what the company could do to help you by granting leave, allowing you to hand over pending work to colleagues, and sponsoring the trip. Finally, you explained how the course will be useful for your job by highlighting that it will help you transition from traditional coding methods to faster, more efficient app and website development, and that you can share these skills with your co-workers. All requirements of General Training Task 1 are well-addressed with relevant and adequately developed ideas.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a clear and logical progression, starting with a polite opening and stating the purpose of the letter in the first paragraph. Each subsequent paragraph is dedicated to a specific bullet point from the prompt, concluding with an appropriate sign-off. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well, such as 'I am interested in this course because...', 'Also, it would be grateful if...', and 'After this course I will be able to...'. However, paragraphing could be slightly better managed, and some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Overall arrangement is coherent and easy to follow, supporting a smooth flow of ideas throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully communicating your points regarding the training course and job benefits. You attempt some less common lexical items such as 'traditional method', 'sponser my trip', and 'benificial'. However, there are a few spelling and word choice errors, such as spelling 'advance' instead of 'advanced', 'creat' instead of 'create', 'collegues' instead of 'colleagues', 'sponser' instead of 'sponsor', and 'benificial' instead of 'beneficial'. Additionally, phrase choices like 'give me a permission' contain minor inaccuracies. Despite these limitations, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the message clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like 'I am writing to request you to give me...' and 'After this course I will be able to create interesting websites...'. There are several grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'give me a permission', 'go the Canada', and 'I am looking forward to hear from you soon' (which should be 'hearing'). Punctuation and articles also have minor slips, such as missing spaces after periods in a couple of places (e.g., 'coding. It is'). However, these errors do not impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout the letter.
