Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing to request you to enroll my name for the training course which our company have just launched to improve the communication and language skills.
As you know, I am working in marketing team and my daily task is to interect with our international clients by both of the ways through social media and video calls. This job demands great knowledge of different languages and communication skii to create a trustable relation with the clients. So I was thinking to start this four month language communication course to improve myself.
This course is launched by head office, so the only think that you can do is to sign the registration form and provide me the letter that during the course, the assignments those I am handling, would not be effected.
This course will help me to build self confidence and enhance me communication skills in another languages also such as English and French which I am thinking to choose as we have laots of clients from Frenace and Englidh countries also. I hope you will think about my request and send me a positive response.
I Hope this course will add-up something great to my personality.
Yours sincerelt,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all three bullet points required by the prompt. First, the student describes the training course clearly as a four-month language and communication programme designed by the head office. Second, the student explains what the company needs to do by asking the manager to sign the registration form and provide a guarantee that current assignments will not be affected. Third, the purpose of the course is explained well, stating that it will enhance communication skills with international clients, specifically in English and French. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a manager, and the position is clear throughout. Minor over-generalisations occur regarding corporate logistics, but all required task parts are adequately addressed, earning a Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organised into appropriate paragraphs, each serving a distinct function such as introducing the request, providing details, and concluding. The overall progression of ideas is logical and easy to follow. However, cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or awkwardly structured, as seen in phrases like "by both of the ways through social media" and "so the only think that you can do is". Referencing is generally clear, but occasional clunky transitions prevent the response from achieving a higher band. Paragraphing is utilised sufficiently, and the letter format is correctly maintained, justifying a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for a workplace request, incorporating terms such as "international clients", "registration form", and "self confidence". However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including "interect" instead of interact, "skii" instead of skill, "trustable" instead of trustworthy or strong, "think" instead of thing, and "laots" instead of lots. Furthermore, geographical and proper noun spelling issues such as "Frenace" and "Englidh" detract from accuracy. While communication is never impeded, these frequent lexical errors cap the vocabulary score at Band 5.5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The student attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses and subordinate clauses (e.g., "I am writing to request you to enroll my name..." and "...French which I am thinking to choose as we have laots of clients..."). However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several structural errors and awkward phrasings, such as "request you to enroll my name" instead of asking to be enrolled, "the training course which our company have just launched" (subject-verb agreement error with 'company'), and "assignments those I am handling". Punctuation is generally acceptable, but minor grammatical slips occur frequently enough to place this response firmly at Band 5.5.
