Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The student successfully covers all three bullet points outlined in the prompt. First, the training course is clearly described as an online Java language masterclass aimed at building websites and apps. Second, the student explains what the company could do to help by requesting monetary resources and suggesting that the course be provided to the broader staff. Finally, the utility of the course is explained in terms of upgrading from basic website creation to developing high-quality front and back ends for regular clients. The tone is appropriately formal for a business letter to a manager. All requirements of the prompt are addressed thoroughly and relevantly, earning a solid band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter follows a clear logical organization with appropriate formatting, beginning with the correct salutation and ending with a formal sign-off. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate the introduction, specific requests, justification of utility, and conclusion. However, there are some minor issues with cohesive devices and referencing. For instance, the phrase 'In addition to, this java language masterclass' is awkward and slightly misused, and the transitions between paragraphs could flow more smoothly. Nevertheless, overall progression is clear and the message is easy to follow throughout.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for a workplace request, incorporating terms such as 'apprise', 'functional', 'monetary resources', and 'front and back end'. However, there are a few lexical inaccuracies and slightly unnatural collocations, such as 'inculcate fully functional websites' where 'inculcate' is incorrect in meaning and usage (it typically refers to ideas or habits rather than software), and the misspelling 'mastercalss'. Despite these errors, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional forms ('However, if the company provide premium services...') and subordinate clauses. However, there are several grammatical errors and lapses in agreement. For example, 'if the company provide' should use the third-person singular 'provides', and 'website' should be pluralized as 'websites' when referring to general client work. There are also occasional capitalization errors ('java', 'mastercalss'). While these errors are noticeable, they do not impede communication, and the writer demonstrates a reasonable control over complex grammar.
