Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to request permission to attend a training course that I believe would be highly beneficial to my current position in the company.
I recently came across an advertisement for a skill development program This course covers areas such as Microbiology, Biochemistry, cancer biology and genetics. I believe these skills are directly related to my current job and would help me to perform my duties more effectively.
I would be grateful if the company could consider paying the course fee and allowing me to attend during working hours. Apart from them the course will be held on Hyderabad at IIRCT institute. So I need to submit my experience letter and position status.
I would particularly like to attend this course because I regularly perform hand-on practicals with fellow workers and doing variety of test cultures. It will improving my technical skills and decrease my manuals errors. Although, I get the opportunity to learn with research scholars and senior scientist.
Thank you for considering my request. i look forward to hearing from you.
Yours, faithfully,
Krupa Maisuria.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The student covers all bullet points required by the task prompt. The letter successfully describes the training course by mentioning specific subjects like 'Microbiology, Biochemistry, cancer biology and genetics'. It explains what the company could do by asking to 'consider paying the course fee and allowing me to attend during working hours'. Finally, it outlines how the course will be useful, stating that it will help 'decrease my manuals errors' and improve technical skills. However, the tone fluctuates slightly near the beginning by addressing the manager as 'Dear Sir,' despite the prompt specifying 'Dear Sir or Madam,', and there are some minor structural issues in covering the details, though overall the core requirements are met satisfactorily for a band 6.5 or 7.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is generally organized logically with clear paragraph breaks separating the introduction, course description, company requests, and work benefits. Cohesive devices are used to connect ideas, such as 'Apart from them' and 'Although'. However, referencing and transitions are sometimes faulty or mechanical. For example, 'Apart from them' is an unnatural cohesive choice in this context, and 'Although' is used incorrectly to connect clauses where 'In addition' or 'Furthermore' would be more appropriate. Paragraphing is present and helps structure the message, but the overall progression of ideas feels slightly disjointed at sentence boundaries, fitting the band 6 descriptor well.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating subject-specific terms such as 'Microbiology', 'Biochemistry', and 'test cultures'. There are, however, noticeable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text. Examples include 'manuals errors' instead of 'manual errors', 'held on Hyderabad' instead of 'held in Hyderabad', and 'hand-on practicals' instead of 'hands-on practical sessions'. While these lexical inaccuracies and typographical slips are present, they do not impede overall communication, allowing the reader to easily understand the intended meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response includes a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures such as 'I would be grateful if the company could consider...'. However, there are several grammatical errors and punctuation slips throughout the text. Examples include a missing period after 'program', incorrect capitalization in 'i look forward', and tense or form issues such as 'It will improving my technical skills' instead of 'improve'. Punctuation and article usage also show occasional lapses. These errors occur regularly but rarely impede the reader's understanding of the message, which is characteristic of band 6 performance.
