Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
The candidate successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. The letter appropriately begins with 'Dear Sir or Madam,' matching the formal tone required when writing to a manager in certain organisational contexts, though the context is a direct appeal to a superior. The training course is clearly described as covering theoretical and practical aspects of project management with factory visits and expert lectures. The request for help is explicitly stated through a change in office hours to attend the 4:00 p.m. classes. Finally, the usefulness of the course is well-explained in terms of improving team handling, communication skills, efficiency, and productivity. Ideas are relevant and fully developed throughout, meeting the requirements of Band 7.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct purpose in developing the overall response. The writer makes use of appropriate paragraphing and basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', 'However', and 'As a result' to guide the reader through the progression of ideas. Although some transitions are slightly formulaic, the logical flow is maintained throughout. Referencing is generally clear, connecting the course details, the work schedule adjustment, and the expected professional benefits into a coherent request. This performance corresponds well to Band 7 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The candidate demonstrates an adequate and generally appropriate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms such as 'professional', 'theoretical aspects', 'efficiency', and 'productivity'. However, there are several noticeable spelling errors throughout the text, including 'benificial' (beneficial), 'desinged' (designed), 'managemnet' (management), 'crated' (created), 'lactures' (lectures), 'apprciated' (appreciated), 'mathodes' (methods), 'hendling' (handling), and 'proposel' (proposal). Additionally, there is a minor grammatical/lexical slip in 'seek you permission' instead of 'seek your permission'. These persistent spelling and word-form errors restrict the score to Band 6, as they occasionally distract the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, incorporating conditional and causative ideas such as 'It would be great if you allow me to start work early...' and 'As I work as project lead... this course will help me to learn...'. Grammatical control is generally fair, and meaning is rarely obscured. However, there are some minor grammatical inaccuracies, such as missing possessive determiners or prepositions ('timings of this course is pulling me back' where 'timing' or singular verb agreement is flawed, and 'look forward to join' instead of 'joining'). Punctuation is mostly accurate, and despite the errors, communication remains clear throughout, supporting a Band 6.5 or solid Band 6 score.
