Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to inform you that, I have seen an advertisement regarding a new training course on entry level certificate of Business Analysis. So, I am excited to learn this course and the more important thing about this course is schedule, because it is online and flexible to attend for the full time employee.

There are certain things in which company can assist me in terms of financially. This is because our company offers tution fees to their full time employees and also further helps them to wok remotely for the specific time frame until they complete their certification.

As of now I am working as a consultant side to handle basic requirement. If I will complete this certification, I will be promoted to Junior Business Analyst position, where I can interact directly interact with the clients regarding new projects.

I hope you will consider my request and grant me to complete new training course. If you need any further information please feel free to contact me.

Yours sincerely,

Rishil

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

The response successfully covers all three bullet points required in the task instructions. The student describes the training course, specifically mentioning the 'entry level certificate of Business Analysis' and its online, flexible format. Furthermore, the writer explains how the company can help by covering tuition fees and allowing remote work during the certification period. Finally, the utility of the course is clearly outlined, as completion will lead to a promotion to a Junior Business Analyst position with client interaction responsibilities. All parts of the prompt are fully addressed with a consistent, appropriate tone and a clear purpose maintained throughout the letter. Therefore, the response aligns well with the requirements for a Band 7.0 performance.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The letter exhibits a clear logical organisation with paragraphs dedicated to separate topics, such as the course description, company assistance, and career benefits. Cohesive devices are used, though some transitional phrases feel slightly mechanical, such as 'There are certain things in which company can assist me' and 'As of now I am working'. Paragraphing is handled well, ensuring a logical progression of ideas from start to finish. The salutation and sign-off are appropriate for a formal letter to a manager. Overall, the coherence and cohesion match the descriptors for Band 6.5, leaning towards Band 7.0 due to the clear paragraph structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range suitable for a workplace context, employing terms like 'advertisement', 'certification', 'consultant', and 'flexible'. However, there are some noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward collocations, such as 'learn this course' instead of 'take' or 'enroll in', and 'side to handle basic requirement' instead of 'capacity' or 'role'. The phrasing 'tution fees' contains a spelling error. While less common vocabulary is attempted, the precision of word choice is sometimes lacking, placing this response firmly in the Band 6.0 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as relative clauses ('which will be useful') and conditional/temporal clauses ('If I will complete this certification'). However, there are grammatical errors that slightly disrupt fluency, notably the incorrect tense in 'If I will complete this certification' (should be present simple: 'If I complete') and punctuation issues like the unnecessary comma splice in 'I am writing to inform you that, I have seen'. There is also a clumsy phrasing in 'grant me to complete' instead of 'grant me time to complete'. These errors rarely impede communication, reflecting the characteristics of a Band 6.0 response.
