Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to request you for allowing me to enrol myself for a training course wich will be useful for my job.
Firsly, I would like to inform you that I have seen an advertisement for a cupping trainnig course, will be held at Brampton, from 16th October to 20th October. This course will include hands-on-practical training as well as theoritical concept. This course will be organized by well known Dr. Jess, who did master in cupping and kinesio taping.
I would like to request you to grant my leave from 16th to 20th October. I would be grateful if you could provide a referance letter for my course. It would be helpful for me if you could allocate my one week patients to someone else. Also, could you please give me detail about the person who will treat my patients?
I would like to mention that this course will be useful for treating patient more effectively. As we can use cupping therapy as a advance treatment plan, patient can feel relax and trust more on our clinic. This training course is the best place to contact with well known professional doctors and build strong relationship with them. As a result, they may recommend our clinic to patients.
Lastly, thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Alphiya

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully covers all the bullet points outlined in the prompt. First, the student describes the training course clearly by mentioning the specific topic of cupping and kinesio taping, the location in Brampton, and the dates from 16th to 20th October. Second, the student explains what the company could do to help, specifically requesting leave, a reference letter, and assistance with reallocating patients. Finally, the student explains how the course will be useful for the job, noting that cupping is an advanced treatment that can improve patient care and attract more clients to the clinic through professional networking. Although the salutation used 'Dear Sir' instead of 'Dear Sir or Madam' as instructed, all core communicative requirements of the task are addressed and well-extended, leading to a strong band score.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter is logically organised into clear paragraphs, each serving a distinct communicative purpose: introduction, course details, requests to management, professional benefits, and a polite sign-off. Cohesive devices are used throughout, such as 'Firsly', 'Also', and 'As a result', although some spelling mistakes affect the presentation of these connectors. Paragraphing is used appropriately to structure the letter. While referencing is generally clear, the progression between ideas could be slightly smoother in the body paragraphs. Overall, the arrangement provides a clear logical organisation that allows the reader to follow the writer's message easily.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student attempts a satisfactory range of vocabulary relevant to a workplace and clinical context, using terms like 'enrol myself', 'hands-on-practical training', 'advance treatment plan', and 'professional doctors'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'Firsly' instead of 'Firstly', 'trainnig' instead of 'training', 'theoritical' instead of 'theoretical', 'referance' instead of 'reference', and 'detail' instead of 'details'. Additionally, phrases like 'request you for allowing me' are unnatural. Despite these limitations and inaccuracies, the vocabulary is adequate to convey the intended meaning without impeding communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, incorporating relative clauses such as 'which will be useful for my job' and conditional or causal structures like 'As we can use cupping therapy as a advance treatment plan...'. However, grammatical accuracy is inconsistent. There are several structural and prepositional errors, including 'request you for allowing me', 'cupping trainnig course, will be held' (missing relative pronoun and verb agreement), and 'allocate my one week patients'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but articles and verb forms require closer attention. These errors occur frequently enough to prevent the assignment of a higher band, though they rarely impede overall communication.
