Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student successfully covers all three bullet points required in the prompt. The letter begins by describing the training course, identifying it as a six-month Data Analytics program at CBU focused on analytical and technical skills. Next, the writer explains what the company could do to help by explicitly requesting financial assistance and approval to participate in the program. Finally, the utility of the course is addressed by stating that the newly acquired skills will enhance data management processes, decision-making efficiency, and overall performance. The purpose of the letter is clear, and all key prompt requirements are adequately met. While some ideas could be slightly more elaborated for a higher band, the overall task coverage satisfies the requirements for a Band 6.0.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response is organized into distinct paragraphs, creating a coherent overall structure for a business letter. The letter follows a logical progression from introducing the training course and its utility, to making the specific request for financial support, and concluding with a polite sign-off. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. For instance, the transition 'After compliton this cource i will able to' lacks smooth connective tissue, and referencing is occasionally unclear due to grammatical issues ('that i belive it help'). Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but cohesive devices are sometimes inadequate or repetitive. These features place the response firmly at Band 5.5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student attempts a range of vocabulary relevant to the workplace and professional training, such as 'analytical and technical skill', 'data processing tools', and 'decision-making efficiency'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'finencial' (financial), 'profesonal' (professional), 'belive' (believe), 'tital' (title), 'focuse' (focused), 'interept' (interpret), 'proficiancy' (proficiency), 'assencial' (essential), 'performence' (performance), 'compliton' (completion), and 'cource' (course). These noticeable errors and misspellings indicate a limited control of word forms and spelling, constraining the lexical score to Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'I am writing to request financial assistance and study level to attend a professional study program that I believe it help both myself and company.' However, grammatical accuracy is weak, featuring frequent errors such as omitted articles ('Tha course tital, Data analytics it is...'), incorrect verb forms ('that I believe it help', 'which is improved collect'), and preposition errors. Punctuation and capitalization are also erratic, especially with lowercase letters at the beginning of sentences ('best regard, khan'). Because frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent fluent comprehension, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
