Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter to infrom about a training course which is useful for my current job as well as in my career.
To bgein with, last month, I have seen an advertisement for health care leadership course. However, I am really intrested to do that course and it is 1 year course with some clinical experience in the last semster. Moreover, it aligns with my previous study. So, I don't need to struggle in my entire course.
However, I would like to change my schedule from full time to part time on weekends. So, could you please give me part time hours in my current role? It would be great help for me as I will be joining classes on the weekdays. Furthermore, it will be really useful for my current position as it enhances my skills in the administration field. I hope you can understand my situation. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Yours sincerely,
Riddhi

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response covers all parts of the task, meeting the basic requirements by describing the training course, explaining how the company can help, and showing how it will be useful for the job. However, some areas are under-developed. For example, the description of the course touches on the duration and clinical experience, but lacks finer details regarding the specific content. Similarly, the request for company help is somewhat brief, simply asking to change the schedule to part-time without elaborating on alternative arrangements. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, achieving a clear and polite purpose throughout the writing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement and follows a logical letter format with a standard greeting and sign-off. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct points, such as the course description and the request for schedule changes. However, the progression between ideas is sometimes mechanical or abrupt, relying heavily on basic cohesive devices like 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Furthermore' rather than seamless transitions. Referencing is generally clear, though the repetitive use of transition words occasionally disrupts the natural flow of the letter.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common phrases such as 'aligns with my previous study' and 'administration field'. However, there are notable spelling errors, such as 'infrom' instead of inform and 'bgein' instead of begin, along with collocation issues like 'intrested to do' instead of interested in doing. While these errors are present, the overall lexical resource is minimally adequate for communication, as the intended meaning remains clear to the reader despite the slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional ideas appropriately. There are some noticeable grammar errors, such as the tense usage in 'last month, I have seen an advertisement', which should be in the past simple tense, and preposition issues like 'great help for me'. Punctuation is generally acceptable. These errors do not impede communication, and the writer maintains a reasonable level of control over basic structures while attempting more complex sentence patterns.
