Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses the main parts of the task, covering the course description, company help, and usefulness for the job, though some points are underdeveloped. For instance, the description of the training course remains quite vague, stating only that it is a 'Marketing course' without specifying details like duration, format, or exact content. Similarly, the explanation of how the company can help focuses briefly on the registration process and a request for part-time work, but lacks full elaboration. The tone is appropriate for a formal letter to a manager, and all bullet points from the prompt are represented, placing the response securely in the mid-level range for task achievement.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
There is a clear overarching structure with appropriate paragraphing used to separate distinct points, such as the introduction, course details, company assistance, and concluding remarks. However, the progression of ideas can occasionally feel mechanical due to repetitive referencing and simple transitional phrases like 'In addition' and 'Also'. While referencing is generally present, it is sometimes repetitive, as seen with repeated phrases regarding the course's usefulness. Paragraphs are grouped logically around specific themes, but tighter cohesive links between sentences would help to improve the overall flow and elevate the organization of the letter.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to incorporate less common items, though with noticeable limitations and errors in word choice and collocation. Examples such as 'Marketing management manager' show awkward phrasing and tautology, while 'registaration' contains a spelling error. Other lexical choices, such as 'employeer' instead of employee, indicate control issues with word forms. While the message remains understandable despite these inaccuracies, the vocabulary range is restricted primarily to common workplace terms, preventing the writing from reaching a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as conditional and subordinate clauses in sentences like 'I want your help for the registaration process as the advertisement stated that...'. However, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles, incorrect prepositions ('work for a part-time employeer'), and punctuation issues around the sign-off and comma placement. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur regularly throughout the text, limiting the sentence structures and reflecting a restricted range of accurate grammatical control.
