Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Rudresh Patel and I am an employee in customer service department. Today, I am writing this letter to express my interest to undertake an online French language learning course.
While browsing throught instagram, I saw an advertisement for the classes and found it immensly aligning with my current work. For me to commence the training, I will need some help from your end. Firstly, if possible I would like to leave an hour early on Thursdays and Fridays, so that I can attend the evening lectures. While, the fee for training is five hundred dollars, I would like the company to pay half of it so that I can afford it without any financial defecit.
Not only learnig French will be beneficial for me but, it will also be equally important the company as it will help me interact fluently with French clients. Having additional language knowlegde will be a great boost for me and eventually the firm.
So, I hope that you will consider my request and do the necessary.
Thanking you,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response successfully addresses all parts of the prompt, covering the description of the course, how the company could help, and why it is useful for the job. The bullet points are all covered, satisfying the core requirements of the task. However, some ideas show a slight imbalance in development. For instance, the description of the course and the request for company assistance are well explained, but the explanation regarding how it will be useful for the job remains somewhat general. To reach a higher band, these ideas would need to be more fully extended and supported with greater detail regarding specific work tasks or scenarios where French is required.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter maintains a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. The response is divided into logical paragraphs, with a proper greeting and sign-off, creating a coherent overall arrangement. Cohesive devices are used reasonably well to connect sentences and ideas, such as 'Firstly' and 'Not only... but also', which shows an ability to structure arguments. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally a little mechanical or slightly awkward, such as starting a paragraph with 'While' or using 'So' to begin the concluding sentence. Skilful fine-tuning of these transitions and avoiding slight over-reliance on basic cohesive markers would elevate the response further.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'commence', 'immensly', and 'defecit'. There are, however, several spelling and word-choice errors, including 'throught', 'immensly' (missing an 'e'), and 'defecit' (deficit). Furthermore, phrases like 'immensly aligning' and 'financial defecit' display minor inaccuracies in collocation and word form. While these errors do not impede overall communication and the message remains clear, they restrict the lexical score to the current level. A wider, more precise control of spelling and stylistic phrasing is needed for a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures like 'so that I can attend' and 'for me to commence the training'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as 'interest to undertake' (instead of 'interest in undertaking'), missing articles ('in customer service department'), and punctuation issues around conjunctions, notably 'While, the fee...' and 'important the company'. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, and the meaning remains clear throughout. To move towards higher bands, the writer must demonstrate greater control over complex sentence patterns and prepositional use.
