Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this to express my interest for a language course. Recently, I saw an advertisement on my phone about the french learning lessons. The name of the course is "French for business".
This course is a consist of three main modules. First is a beginner learning, followed by an advance learning and last module is a professional learning. I want to speak professional french although this language is not completely unfamiliar to me. I took french classes when I was in my collage therefore, I can speak french very clear.
However, I want to enhance my communication skills in this language. Often,I have to deal with french clients in our company so that this course would be benefitial for my role in our company. Apart from that, our company provides several perks for the employees and I am planning to use one of the benefits that comapny provides which is financial help for learning.
I already submitted my application form for this course and I would really appreciate if company will provide me financial aid.
Yours sincerely,
Neel Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, successfully describing the 'French for business' course, explaining how the company can help through financial aid, and stating how the course will be useful for dealing with French clients. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. While the description of the course modules and the professional motivation are clear, the explanation regarding company assistance is somewhat repetitive and lacks deeper extension. Despite this unevenness in development, all bullet points are adequately covered, allowing the response to meet the requirements for this level.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introducing the course and its modules to explaining its professional utility and requesting financial support. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate different topics, such as the course details in the second paragraph and the work benefits in the third. Cohesive devices and referencing are generally clear, though certain transitions feel slightly mechanical or abrupt, preventing the text from reaching a higher band. Overall, the flow is logical and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items and workplace-related terms such as 'advertisement', 'communication skills', and 'financial aid'. However, there are noticeable word choice and word form errors that highlight limitations at this level, such as 'interest for' instead of 'interest in', 'advance learning' instead of 'advanced learning', and 'benefitial' instead of 'beneficial'. Additionally, spelling errors like 'collage' instead of 'college' occur, though these inaccuracies do not impede overall communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The text displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like 'I want to speak professional french although this language is not completely unfamiliar to me.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('a consist of three main modules', 'the company will provide'), incorrect prepositions, and minor punctuation spacing issues. However, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, reflecting a solid control of basic structures alongside developing control of more complex sentence patterns.
