Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing this letter about a training course that I want to do for my career opportunities.
I want to do good communication training course and it is a short course as well as it provides practical training. It would be beneficial for me because during this training course I can improve my communication skills and I can easily discuss anything about my project with my colleagues.
I would be appreciate it if you could provide the fees for this training course and give one week holidays to complete it. Also, could you please arrange accommodation because this course is organized in another city and I do not have any idea about accommodation there.
It would be beneficial for my job because after completing this course I can easily speak in English with employees and understand every task in brief and do more than my knowledge and also attend the international meeting with clients.
I look forward to your positive response.
Yours sincerely,
Jagjit Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You address all three points: you describe a practical communication course, request help with fees, time off and accommodation, and explain how it could support communication with colleagues and international clients. The purpose of the letter is clear and the requests are relevant. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. For example, the course description does not say where or when it is offered, and the request for one week away is not linked to a specific course schedule. The job benefits are relevant but partly unclear, especially “do more than my knowledge.” Add a little detail about the course and explain more precisely how its skills would improve your work to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The letter has a coherent overall arrangement: it opens with the purpose, then covers the course, the support requested and the expected job benefits, before closing politely. Paragraphing helps the reader follow these separate points, and phrases such as “Also” and “because” make some relationships clear. Cohesion is occasionally mechanical, however, with “It would be beneficial” repeated in two paragraphs and several ideas joined in long sentences using “and.” The connection between the course description and the request for a week of leave could also be clearer. Use a wider range of linking expressions and divide the final benefits into more clearly related points to improve progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main purpose, including relevant terms such as “communication skills,” “accommodation,” “colleagues” and “international meeting.” The tone is generally suitable for a workplace letter. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or vague, which limits precision: “good communication training course” is not a natural phrase, “provide the fees” does not clearly express the requested financial support, and “do more than my knowledge” is difficult to interpret. Repetition of “beneficial” also narrows the range. Choose more precise workplace expressions and vary repeated wording; this will make your meaning clearer while retaining the appropriate formal tone.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and more extended sentence forms, including clauses with “because” and “after completing,” and the main message remains understandable. Some grammatical errors are present. For example, “I would be appreciate it” has an incorrect verb form, and “I want to do good communication training course” is missing an article. In “give one week holidays,” the noun phrase needs a more accurate grammatical form, while the long sentence beginning “It would be beneficial for my job because” would be clearer if divided into shorter sentences. Practise articles, verb patterns and sentence boundaries, while continuing to use subordinate clauses to show relationships between ideas.
