Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir or Madam,
Recently I came accross with an advertisement of financial analyst training course of three months. Although, I am working as an Accountant from last 2 years in this company but this course would assist me to upgrade my skills in the sector of accounting.
Additionally, I would appreciate if company could provide me flexible hours of work. As, my classes are in the evening from 3pm to 5pm during weekdays. Also, If company could sponsor my course fees, I would be thankful because the fees is $5000, which is higher for my budget.
Moreover, this course would be really helpful for the company as well because with this we can get to know new softwares and policies which could increase our company's productivity. I can provide training session to all the accounting employees. This would be beneficial for both, the company and the staff.
I am very thankful to you. I am waiting for your response.
Regards,
Lakhwinder kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three points: you describe a three-month financial analyst course, request flexible hours and fee sponsorship, and explain that the learning could support company productivity and staff training. The purpose is clear and the requests are relevant. The explanation of how the course will help your own accounting work is less fully developed, however: “get to know new softwares and policies” is broad, and the link to specific duties or skills is not explained. The course schedule and fee add useful detail, while the closing could make the requested decision more explicit. To strengthen the letter, explain which analytical skills or tools you expect to gain and how you would apply them in your role. This would develop the ideas more fully while retaining the clear coverage already present.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear overall progression: it introduces the course, makes requests for support, explains potential benefits, and closes politely. Paragraphing helps the reader distinguish these purposes, and linking expressions such as “Additionally” and “Moreover” make the sequence easy to follow. Some connections are a little mechanical, and “Also” begins a sentence that continues the same request rather than introducing a distinct point. The final benefit paragraph also moves quickly from company productivity to training colleagues. You could improve flow by grouping the two requests together and then explaining, in a more explicit sequence, how the course will improve your work and benefit the team. Overall, the organisation is clear and the ideas progress logically.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range for a formal workplace letter, including relevant terms such as “financial analyst training course,” “sponsor my course fees,” and “productivity.” These choices make the main message clear, and you attempt some more specific vocabulary. However, several word-choice, collocation, and spelling issues reduce precision: “came accross with” is not the natural expression, “new softwares” is unsuitable because “software” is generally uncountable, and “upgrade my skills in the sector of accounting” is awkward. “Policies” is also vague in this context. Aim for more natural professional phrasing and precise terms for the skills and tools you expect to learn. These improvements would make the letter sound more fluent without changing its clear meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including a concessive opening with “Although” and a reason clause introduced by “because.” The meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction, articles, prepositions, and punctuation. For example, “Although, I am working as an Accountant from last 2 years” has an unnecessary comma, an unsuitable tense for a period continuing to the present, and an incorrect time expression. “I would appreciate if company could provide me” needs an article and a grammatical construction such as “I would appreciate it if the company could provide me with…”. The sentence beginning “As, my classes…” is a fragment. Review these patterns and punctuate subordinate clauses carefully; more accurate control would make your varied sentence attempts clearer.
