Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to you because I have seen an advertisement for the training course and I want to take part in communication skills course.
The communication skills are very useful for everyone as they can speak in front of the people without any hesitation. It would be very helpful if you arrange this training course in our company as well and if you are arranging can you tell about the schedule as when it is starting. Many other employees also want to take part. I would also want to know about taht it is happenning online or in person.
This course will be useful for me because sometimes when I speak in front of people i feel nervous and hesitated .
I look forward to hearing from you soon.I feel you will say ye
Your faithfully

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the course as communication-skills training and explain that speaking to groups makes you nervous, so the letter is relevant to the situation. However, the task is only partly addressed: the course description is brief, and the request for company support is unclear because you ask the manager to arrange the course at the company rather than clearly requesting a specific form of help, such as funding or time off. The benefit to your job is also not explained beyond feeling less nervous when speaking. The response is six words below the required minimum, which further limits the development of your ideas. Add specific course details and explain how improved communication would help with your work responsibilities.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter has a recognisable sequence: you introduce the course, ask about arrangements, explain a personal benefit, and close. This gives the reader a basic sense of the message. However, most of the content is placed in one long paragraph, so the requests and explanation are not clearly separated. Connections between ideas are sometimes abrupt, particularly the move from asking about the schedule and format to describing your nervousness. The repeated use of “and” also makes the middle section feel like a list rather than a developed progression. Use separate paragraphs for the course and support request, and then for its workplace benefits. Clearer linking phrases would help the reader follow each point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the main topic, including “training course,” “communication skills,” “schedule,” and “online or in person.” These choices make your purpose understandable. However, the range is limited and some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “take part in communication skills course” and “speak in front of the people.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, including “taht,” “happenning,” and “hesitated,” which reduce the accuracy and polish of the letter. Aim for more precise workplace language, such as describing the course as a “presentation and communication skills programme” and explaining that it would help you “address an audience confidently.” Proofreading would also catch spelling slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, for example, “It would be very helpful if you arrange this training course in our company as well and if you are arranging can you tell about the schedule.” This shows an effort to express requests and conditions, but the longer structures are often faulty and difficult to follow. Errors include missing articles in “take part in communication skills course,” awkward question structure in “can you tell about the schedule as when it is starting,” and inconsistent capitalisation in “i.” The sentence “I feel nervous and hesitated” also uses an incorrect form after “feel.” Punctuation is inconsistent, with missing spaces after full stops. Use shorter, controlled sentences and check verb forms, articles, and punctuation before sending the letter.
