Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Sir Richardson,
I am writing this letter to inform you that it will be having a training course this coming month. I am really interested with this program, because it would have a big enhancement of my current position. I know my capabilities in my job, but this training I find myself to gain more knowledge, skills and expertise.
This training probably discuss the generation of solar system setup regarding inverters, batteries and solar panels. It would elaborate the correct installation for mounting the panels above roofs, and above ocean as well. According to this training, they would specify the maximum and minimum power dissipation during peak hours of harvest. The proper calculations and quotations also included in this seminar.
I would like to request to handle my air fare, accomodation and allowance during my training. Please let me know for having your feedback with this email. I would greatly appreciate your kind and assistance with this matter.
Thank you so much!
Yours Faithfully,
Christian Kenneth

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The letter explains the course you want to attend, gives relevant details about its solar-system content, and requests help with travel, accommodation and an allowance. It also indicates that the training would improve your knowledge and skills. However, the benefit to your specific job is only broadly stated in “a big enhancement of my current position”; explain how the course would help you perform particular duties, such as installing systems or advising on power requirements. The request for company support is clear, but could be framed more precisely and politely. The opening also says “it will be having a training course,” which makes the purpose less clear. Overall, the main parts are addressed, though some are developed less fully than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The information is arranged in a generally sensible order: you introduce your interest, describe the course, and then request support. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and phrases such as “According to this training” signal a shift to course content. However, the connection between the course details and its practical value to your role is not made explicit, so the progression feels incomplete. Some linking is also awkward or repetitive, particularly “I am writing this letter to inform you” followed by “I am really interested with this program.” The closing request and thanks are understandable, but the transition to asking for feedback could be smoother. Clearer links between each paragraph’s purpose would make the letter easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant technical vocabulary, including “inverters,” “batteries,” “solar panels,” “installation,” and “power dissipation,” which helps describe the course. There are also attempts at more formal expressions, such as “I would greatly appreciate.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural: “interested with,” “big enhancement,” “air fare,” and “kind and assistance” do not express the intended meaning naturally. “Generation of solar system setup” is also difficult to interpret. These choices sometimes make the reader pause, although the overall topic remains understandable. Aim for precise, conventional phrases and check spelling, including “accommodation,” to improve control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The letter includes a mix of simple statements and longer sentences, and the course description shows an attempt to combine related information. Meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “it will be having a training course” has an incorrect verb construction; “This training probably discuss” needs an appropriate subject–verb form; and “The proper calculations and quotations also included” is missing a verb. There are also problems with sentence patterns and prepositions, as in “I find myself to gain” and “request to handle my air fare.” Review verb forms, complete clauses, and the grammatical patterns used after verbs such as “request” and “appreciate.”
