Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear Sir,
I hope this email finds you well. I am writing this email to make an request to get enrolled in traning course that our company is offering right now.
Yesterday, I was buying grocery from the local store and apperently I saw an advertisement on the front page of newspaper about a training coourse that our company is offering. I was also searching for this training program from so long that i could not get admit into due to less enrollment seats availbility.
Moreover, I am working as junior payroll officer right now and even though I alredy completed required work experience needed to become or to get promoted as senior payrool officer. Unfortuneately, I don't have level three certification, due to which I am failing to get senior level position.
I would be grateful if you can allow me to enroll in this course while working.
Regards,
Anushka

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You give a relevant reason for requesting training: you explain that you are a junior payroll officer, have the experience for promotion, and lack the Level Three certification. However, the task is addressed only minimally because the course itself is not clearly described, and you do not explain what support you need from the company beyond asking to enrol while working. The benefit to your job is implied through promotion, rather than explained in terms of skills or responsibilities you would gain. There is also a mismatch between the prompt, which says you saw an advertisement for a course, and your claim that the company is offering it. Develop each bullet point explicitly: identify the course, request specific support, and connect its content to your work.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The letter has a basic sequence: you introduce your request, explain how you found the course, give your career context, and close with a request. Paragraph breaks help separate these points, and linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “even though” show attempts to connect ideas. However, the progression is not always clear: the advertisement is described as being in a newspaper, but the course is then said to be offered by the company, leaving the relationship unclear. The long sentence beginning “Moreover, I am working…” also combines several ideas without a clear structure. Use a more direct progression, with one paragraph for the course and request, one for company support, and one for job benefits.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant workplace vocabulary, including “junior payroll officer,” “senior payroll officer,” “certification,” and “enrollment seats,” so the reader can understand your career goal. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the letter less clear or professional, such as “traning,” “apperently,” “coourse,” and “availbility.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “get admit into” and “completed required work experience needed.” Aim for accurate, conventional expressions for a formal request, and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary about the course content and the support you need would also help you explain the task points more fully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “even though I already completed…” and the conditional request “I would be grateful if you can allow me…”. Meaning is generally recoverable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are frequent enough to affect clarity. For example, “I am working as junior payroll officer” needs an article, while “I already completed required work experience needed” has missing articles and an awkward tense construction. The sentence beginning “Moreover” is a fragment because it starts with “even though” but does not complete the contrast clearly. Practise building complete sentences with one main clause, then check articles, verb tense, and conditional forms.
