Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing this letter to inform you about the training course that I am planning to take next month in New York.
The training course that I am taking is about the use of Artificial Intelligence in the field of Biotechnology and the use of new technology equipments such as incubators, pipettes and much more.
In order to get this course done, I would like to request the company to cover the training expenses if possible. Additionally, it would be much appreciated if the duration of my training period which is 5 working days from 26 October to 30 October, 2026 is considered as the regular office job for me instead of taking time out from my reserved holidays because this training will be very much helpful for me to take the company on new heights.
This training will provide me with hands on knowledge of advanced equipments and the use of AI to examine the results more accurately. It will be useful to fasten the process of long research works as well. After getting expertise in using the highly advanced equipments, I can train the other employees in the company as well.
I hope to hear back from you soon.
Kind regards,
Alice

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
You address all three requested points: you describe a course on AI in biotechnology and laboratory equipment, ask the company to cover the expenses and treat the five days as work time, and explain how the training could improve research and help you train colleagues. These ideas are relevant and your purpose is clear throughout. The benefits are extended with specific examples, such as using AI to examine results more accurately. However, the course description remains somewhat general: naming the provider or a particular course focus would make it more informative. The claim that it will take the company to “new heights” is also broad; a more concrete link to a work outcome would strengthen the support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The letter has a clear progression: you introduce the course, make your requests, explain its workplace value, and close politely. Paragraphing separates the main functions effectively, and linking expressions such as “Additionally” and “After getting expertise” help show how the ideas relate. The sequence is easy to follow, with no major gaps in meaning. Some connections could be more precise, however. The long request sentence combines the dates, holiday arrangement, and expected benefit, making several points compete for attention. Splitting it into shorter sentences would improve flow. You could also make the transition from the course description to the request more direct, while retaining the clear overall organisation.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of topic-specific vocabulary, including “Artificial Intelligence,” “Biotechnology,” “incubators,” and “pipettes,” and phrases such as “examine the results more accurately” communicate relevant benefits. This gives the letter enough flexibility for its purpose, and the meaning remains clear. Some less natural choices and collocations prevent consistently precise expression: “new technology equipments” is not idiomatic, “get this course done” is informal, and “fasten the process” does not express the intended meaning naturally. “Hands on knowledge” would also be better written as “hands-on experience.” Aim for accurate collocations and a professional register, especially when describing the company’s support and the practical outcomes of the training.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
You use a mix of straightforward and more complex structures, including the conditional request “if possible” and the clause explaining that the training period runs from 26 to 30 October. Many sentences are grammatically controlled, and the reader can follow your requests and reasons without difficulty. A few errors remain in longer constructions. In “the duration of my training period which is 5 working days … is considered,” the relative clause interrupts the main sentence and makes the structure cumbersome; recast it as two sentences. “The use of new technology equipments” also contains a plural-form issue, while “helpful for me to take the company” has an awkward grammatical pattern. Use shorter, clearly structured sentences for the requests, and check agreement and clause boundaries.
