Student answer (Band 5.0)
Dear sir or Madam,
My name is Dhruv Patel. I am working in Rttal Limited in Canada as a modification techanician. I am writing this letter to get more knowledge about course that you offer for now.
I have been working in this company since 7 years as a Modification Technician. I saw a trianing coure advertisement which is related to my field job and my study which is Millwrite course. I want to get this course training for better experience and pay.
This course is offered by Brock company, which is our regular customer. I would like to request you to please help me for getting admission for this course. I already search about this course and if I get job offer letter from our company then this course is free for me. So, can you please provide me job letter for this course.
If I complete this course then I will chance to get higher salary in our company and might be possible to change position from modification technician to machine inspector which will be helpful for me in future for my immigrant purpose. Even with the help of this course i will start my own business after working hours.
Please help me to get admission in this course for my better future. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours' faithfully,
Dhruv Patel

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You cover the three requested points: you identify a millwright training course, ask the company to provide a job offer letter to support admission, and explain possible benefits such as moving into a machine-inspector role. However, the response only partially fulfils the purpose of a letter to your manager. The course description is brief, and the request for help is not fully clear: explain whether you need sponsorship, time off, or assistance with the application, rather than focusing only on a job letter. The benefits also include personal aims, such as immigration and starting a business, which distract from the course’s value to your current job. Develop specific work-related benefits to make your case more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The letter has a recognisable sequence: you introduce yourself, describe the course, make a request, and explain potential benefits. Paragraph breaks help separate these points, and the closing is appropriate. However, progression is sometimes weakened by unclear links between ideas. For example, the connection between the course being offered by a regular customer and needing a company job letter is not explained, so the reader may not understand what action you expect. The final paragraph shifts from a possible promotion to immigration and running a business, making the focus less consistent. Use clearer transitions and keep each paragraph centred on one purpose: course details, practical support requested, and benefits to the company.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant workplace and training vocabulary, including “training course,” “admission,” “salary,” and “machine inspector,” which helps communicate the main topic. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts less clear, such as “modification techanician,” “trianing coure,” and “Millwrite course.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, including “for better experience and pay” and “I will chance to get higher salary.” Choose accurate course and job terminology, and use more natural collocations such as “gain practical experience” and “be eligible for a higher salary.” Proofreading spelling and checking unfamiliar terms would make the request easier to understand.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The letter includes both simple sentences and attempts at longer structures, for example, “If I complete this course then…” and “which will be helpful for me in future.” However, the range is limited, and frequent errors in verb forms, articles, prepositions, and sentence construction sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “I am working in Rttal Limited,” “I have been working in this company since 7 years,” and “I already search about this course.” The conditional sentence “If I complete this course then I will chance to get higher salary” also needs a correct verb structure. Practise accurate present-perfect forms, article use, and complete sentence patterns, then proofread punctuation and capitalisation.
