Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear sir,

I, Taksh Prajapati, working in the fire assay department in SGS Labs writing to inform you that yesterday I went through an article in the company's magazine where I found about the power engineering course and I am interested to pursue it.

The article states that it is a 6 month course and it has a nominal fees. The couse basically focuses on the designing of different equipemnts as well as certain modification that can be made in process to enhance the product quality.

Moreover, it would be great help if company can santion one month of paid leave as the couse contains an in-person lab which is mandatory to complete the course. Additionally, I request company to pay for all the leaves which I have not used till date.

Furthermore, this course will be helpful for the company in many ways. Firstly, as we are setting up a new plant, this course will help us to conduct different pilot plant testing. Secondly, we can modify the current process to get better results.

Thank you for your time and I expect that this request will be accepted and the company will provide proper cooperation.

Yours sincerely

Taksh

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address all three requested points: you identify a six-month power engineering course, ask for paid leave and financial support, and explain how the training could assist with pilot-plant testing and process improvements. The purpose of the letter is clear and the ideas are relevant. However, some parts are less fully developed than others. For example, “nominal fees” does not explain the course cost, and the request to pay for unused leave is not clearly connected to the course or justified. The benefits to your job are plausible, but could be made more specific by explaining which skills from the course you would apply at the new plant. A more direct, consistently formal request would also strengthen the letter’s effectiveness.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The letter has a clear overall progression: you introduce the course, describe its content, make a request for support, and then explain its workplace benefits. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, while “Moreover,” “Additionally,” and “Firstly” guide the reader through your points. The sequence is easy to follow, and the closing is appropriate. Some linking is a little mechanical, particularly the repeated use of additive transitions, and the final paragraph could connect the course more explicitly to the specific benefits listed. The opening sentence also carries several pieces of information at once, making it less easy to process. Breaking it into shorter sentences and using a more varied range of references between ideas would make the progression smoother.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the purpose, including relevant terms such as “power engineering course,” “in-person lab,” “pilot plant testing,” and “product quality.” These choices help communicate the subject and intended benefits. There are, however, some spelling and word-choice inaccuracies that reduce precision, including “couse,” “equipemnts,” and “santion.” A few expressions are also unnatural or vague: “nominal fees” may not convey the intended cost clearly, and “proper cooperation” is less idiomatic in this context. Aim for accurate spelling and natural collocations, especially when making a formal request. More precise terms for the course’s practical content and the support you need would make the letter sound more professional.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which is mandatory to complete the course” and a conditional-style request in “if company can…” The meaning is generally clear, and the paragraphs contain several understandable sentences. Some grammatical errors remain, however. The opening, “I, Taksh Prajapati, working … writing,” is not a complete sentence; use a finite verb, such as “I am writing.” Articles and agreement also need attention in “it would be great help” and “if company can.” The sentence beginning “The article states” shifts into a long chain of clauses that would be clearer if divided. Check sentence completeness, articles, and verb forms when revising.
