Dear Sir or Madam,

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Sir, I am writing this letter to inform you about joining a new course related to artificial intelligence, high-tech technology, and online networking. Recently, I decided to learn about new advanced technologies in depth, as the use of technology is growing these days in every field. Moreover, it provides several benefits that contribute to improving the quality of life by making a person's work easier. From my perspective, learning about these advanced technologies will not only improve my personal skills, but it will also be proven significantly beneficial for our company. For example, as our company will soon adopt these new advancements because these will be going to be an important part in the future, which help with growth in the company. To learn about these advancements, I need your little support. Can you change my schedule from 7:00 to 3:00 instead of 3:30 so that I can join the class from 4:00 to 6:00? This schedule will give me some time to relax my mind and body, and I feel that this will give me time to start my class at exactly 4 o'clock with a fresh mindset.I hope that you will understand my situation and help me to enhance my personality. Sincerely, Komal

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the main purpose by requesting support to attend a course and explaining that new technology could benefit both your skills and the company. The request to adjust your schedule from 7:00 to 3:00 so you can attend classes from 4:00 to 6:00 is specific. However, the course itself remains vague: “artificial intelligence, high-tech technology, and online networking” does not identify its title, provider, duration, or content clearly. The benefit to your job is also mostly general; explain which work tasks or company projects you could improve using these skills. The letter therefore covers the required points, but some are less fully developed. Include clearer course details and a more direct link to your responsibilities.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a recognisable sequence: you introduce the course, explain your interest, describe its potential value, and make a practical request. Paragraphing helps separate these ideas, and connectors such as “Moreover” and “For example” show attempts to link points. However, the progression is sometimes weakened by unclear references, as in “these will be going to be an important part,” where the reader must infer what “these” refers to. The example about company growth also does not clearly follow from the preceding claim. The final request and explanation of your schedule are understandable, but the long paragraph and missing space after “mindset.” make the ending less controlled. Use clearer links and keep each paragraph focused on one purpose.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “artificial intelligence,” “advanced technologies,” “adopt,” and “contribute to improving.” These choices make your general subject clear, and you attempt some more formal expressions. At times, however, word choice or collocation is imprecise or repetitive: “high-tech technology” repeats the same idea, while “enhance my personality” does not naturally express improving professional skills. “My little support” is also not the most suitable phrase for a request to a manager. More precise terms for the course and your work duties would make the letter sound more professional. Aim for natural workplace collocations and avoid repeating broad terms such as “new advancements” without specifying what they involve.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “will not only improve my personal skills, but it will also…” and the purpose clause beginning “so that I can join the class.” The main message is generally understandable, but some sentence structures and verb forms are inaccurate. For example, “as our company will soon adopt these new advancements because these will be going to be” combines clauses awkwardly and uses an incorrect future construction; “which help with growth” also lacks clear agreement and reference. The opening sentence is a fragment after “I am writing…,” and the long schedule sentence would benefit from clearer punctuation. Practise building complete sentences with one clear main clause, and check verb forms and clause connections.
