Student answer (Band 4.5)
Dear sir,
I am writing this letter to inform you that I have seen an advertisement for a training course which will be useful my job.
My name is Tarun and I am working in an international company from last 1 years as a sales manager, and I saw an advertisement yesterday that you are providing a training course for sales team and I think this will help me in improving my skills and techniques.
I kindly, request you to enroll me in this training, so that I will learn more new things and can enhance my status in my company. I believe if I will do this training, I will definetly imrpove the company sales and also give a good revenue.
This course is important for my job as well because If I learn more about sales definetly I will have more opportunities where I can get more high salary jobs.
Please consider my notion.
Your sincerely,
Tarun

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify the advertised sales training and explain that you hope to improve your skills and contribute to company sales, so the main topic is relevant. However, the request for company support is only briefly stated as “enroll me”; you do not explain what practical help is needed, such as paying the fee or allowing time off. The benefit to your job is also mixed with a personal aim of obtaining “more high salary jobs,” which weakens the focus on your current role. The letter is 147 words, below the required 150, and the missing three words should have been used to develop these points. Address each bullet more fully and keep the benefits centred on your work for the company.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The letter follows a basic sequence: you introduce the course, request support, describe possible benefits, and close politely. This gives the reader a general sense of your purpose. However, the ideas are crowded into long paragraphs, and the progression between your current job, the request, and future career opportunities is not always clear. Linking phrases such as “I believe if I will do this training” are awkward and do not clearly connect the course to a specific workplace outcome. Use separate paragraphs for the course, the support requested, and its job-related value. Clearer transitions and more direct references to your role would make the organisation easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “training course,” “sales team,” “skills,” and “revenue,” and the reader can understand the general message. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “enhance my status,” “give a good revenue,” and “consider my notion.” Spelling errors in “definetly” and “imrpove” also reduce accuracy. Choose precise workplace expressions and check spelling carefully; for example, describe how the course could “improve sales performance” or “increase revenue.” A wider set of terms for the course content and the support you need would help you express the request more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences using clauses, for example, “I believe if I will do this training,” but these structures are often faulty. There are recurring problems with verb forms and tense, including “I am working … from last 1 years” and “if I will do this training.” Articles and sentence punctuation also need attention, as in “I kindly, request” and “because If.” These errors sometimes make the relationships between ideas harder to follow, although the overall meaning remains understandable. Practise accurate present perfect forms for duration, conditional structures such as “If I complete this training, I will…,” and punctuation around introductory clauses. More reliable control of these patterns would make your sentences clearer.
