Dear Sir or Madam,
Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Sir,
I am writing to inform you about a training course which I saw in an advertisement. I want to enroll myself in this course.
Firstly, I am interested in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Training Course because I want to enhance my knowledge and clinical expertise in this field. Moreover, I want to learn how to diagnose various types of musculoskeletal disorders easily.
Furthermore, this course will be conducted on weekends only. As I am working seven days a week in your international healthcare company so that's why, I want a favor from your side that you allow me a leave every weekend for six months.
In addition to this, this musculoskeletal training session is not only useful for me but also for my job in your sector as well. After completion of this course I can easily evaluate postural disorders and also be able to make individualized treatment plan for them such as treatments of low back pain , cervical pain and thoracic kyphosis.
I hope you would consider my request and you will help me in this matter.
I am waiting to your prompt response.
Yours sincerely,
Nosheen

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You address all three requested points: you identify the musculoskeletal physiotherapy course, ask your manager to allow weekend leave, and explain how the training could support your clinical work. The examples of assessing postural disorders and planning treatment for back and neck conditions make the benefit relevant. However, the course description is brief, and the request could be more fully specified—for example, by mentioning its duration or schedule more clearly and asking for a particular form of support. The benefit to the company is also only implied rather than explained directly. These relevant details give the letter a clear purpose, while fuller development and a more explicit link to workplace outcomes would strengthen it further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The letter has a clear overall progression: it introduces the request, describes the course, explains the leave needed, and then outlines its usefulness. Paragraphing helps distinguish these points, and phrases such as “Firstly” and “In addition to this” guide the reader. At times, however, the linking is mechanical or repetitive, with several paragraphs beginning with signposting expressions. The sentence beginning “As I am working seven days a week…” also combines the reason and request awkwardly, making the relationship between ideas less smooth. A more direct sequence, with fewer formulaic transitions and clearer references to the course and the requested support, would make the cohesion more flexible and natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for a professional request, including relevant terms such as “clinical expertise,” “musculoskeletal disorders,” “postural disorders,” and “individualized treatment plan.” These choices communicate the specialist context effectively. There are also some less natural or imprecise expressions, such as “enroll myself in this course,” “a favor from your side,” and “I am waiting to your prompt response.” The repeated use of “course” and “useful” also limits variety. Aim for more natural formal collocations and precise workplace language; this would preserve your clear meaning while making the letter sound more fluent and professionally controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause beginning “As I am working…” and a sentence explaining what you will be able to do after the course. Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “As I am working seven days a week … so that’s why” uses overlapping structures, and “I am waiting to your prompt response” has an incorrect preposition pattern. In “After completion of this course I can … and also be able,” the parallel structure is not fully controlled. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly around commas and spaces before punctuation. Check sentence construction, verb patterns, and punctuation carefully to improve accuracy.
