Student answer (Band 5.5)

Dear Sir,

I am writting this letter to infrom you about a training course which will be helpful for me. Recently, I saw an advertisement for an artificial intelligence course online through my social media and also want to join it as soon as I can. Furthermore, the course runs over a three month period starting from the first day of next month. As an employee of your company, I would like you to show some favour to me. I only request you to change my working schedule and make it for early morning to dawn. As the last batch of course starts at 6 p.m. I would most likely to join it as it wil be suitbale according to my job time.

From that course, I would be easily learn some new languages likes C++ , javascript and a new operating system - Linux System. When I looked in detail, it triggered my mind that it will help me and my team to work smoothly and easily on the upcoming projects.

Thank you sir,

yours sincerely,

Chris

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover the three requested points: you identify an artificial-intelligence course, ask for a change to your work schedule, and explain that the learning could help your team with upcoming projects. The request is understandable, but the course description and the benefit to your job are only briefly developed. For example, you list C++, JavaScript and Linux, but do not explain what the course teaches or which work tasks these skills would support. The schedule request is also unclear: “early morning to dawn” does not clearly state the hours you want to work, and the course time is described inconsistently. Add a precise schedule proposal and explain how the training would improve specific responsibilities.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The letter has a generally understandable sequence: you introduce the course, make a request, explain its possible benefit, and close politely. Paragraphing helps separate the request from the job-related benefit. However, some links between ideas are mechanical or unclear. “Furthermore” introduces course dates, while “As the last batch…” does not clearly connect the class time to the schedule change. The second paragraph also moves quickly from learning programming languages to helping the team, without explaining the connection. Use clearer transitions and organise the details so the course information, requested support, and workplace benefits each form a distinct, logically developed point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “training course,” “artificial intelligence,” “working schedule,” and the names of programming languages and an operating system. This gives the reader the main message. However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, such as “writting,” “infrom,” “suitbale,” and “show some favour to me.” Some phrases are also unnatural or vague, including “change my working schedule and make it for early morning to dawn” and “it triggered my mind.” Aim for accurate spelling and more conventional professional expressions. For example, state that you are requesting adjusted working hours and that the course has made you realise how the skills could benefit your team.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a time clause in “As the last batch of course starts at 6 p.m.” and a relative clause in “which will be helpful for me.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in verb forms and sentence construction occur in several places. For instance, “I would be easily learn” should be “I would easily learn,” and “I would most likely to join it” needs “I would most likely join it.” The phrase “it will be suitbale according to my job time” also has an incorrect verb pattern. Practise modal verb structures and revise each sentence for a complete, grammatically consistent clause.
