Student answer (Band 7.0)
in this contemporary era, people follows trends which is in vogue. clothes play a huge role in person's life. as some portion of masses argued that clothing is the way to know about this culture and traits of a person. i believe they do not provide accurate and complete understanding of cultures and character.
Firstly, traditional clothing often reflects a person's cultural heritage. For example, someone wearing a kimono is likely connected to Japanese culture, while a person in a sari may belong to Indian culture. These garments serve as cultural identifiers and are often worn to celebrate festivals or important events. However, in today's globalized world, people frequently wear clothes that have no connection to their culture. A Japanese individual might wear Western-style business suits daily, while someone from India might prefer jeans and a T-shirt. Therefore, while clothing may hint at cultural roots, it is not a definitive indicator.
Secondly, clothing choices can sometimes reflect a person's character. For instance, someone who prefers bright, bold colors might be seen as outgoing, while individuals who choose muted tones could be considered introverted. However, these assumptions are often superficial and misleading. People may wear certain clothes for practical reasons or to conform to social or professional expectations, rather than as a reflection of their true personality.
In conclusion, while clothing can provide clues about a person's culture and character, it is not a reliable measure. Factors such as globalization and personal circumstances make it difficult to accurately judge someone based solely on their attire. It is essential to look beyond appearances to truly understand an individual.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that clothing is not a definitive indicator of culture or character. The ideas are relevant and well-supported with examples such as the kimono and sari for culture, and color preferences for character. The argument is developed logically throughout the essay. The position is consistent from the introduction to the conclusion, and the points are extended sufficiently to meet the requirements of the task. The response is well-focused and avoids irrelevant information, demonstrating a good understanding of the prompt's requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion' are used effectively to guide the reader through the argument. The progression of ideas is smooth and easy to follow. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the transition between the introduction and the first body paragraph could be slightly more sophisticated. Overall, the text is coherent and the use of linking words is generally accurate and natural.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
The vocabulary is generally appropriate for the task. You use some good topic-specific terms like 'cultural identifiers', 'globalized world', and 'superficial'. However, there are some minor errors in word choice and phrasing, such as 'some portion of masses argued' (which is slightly unnatural) and 'in this contemporary era' (a bit cliché). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey your ideas clearly, but to reach a higher band, you should aim to incorporate more precise, less common collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. The spelling is accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, particularly in the introduction, such as 'people follows trends' (subject-verb agreement) and 'which is in vogue' (should be 'which are'). Additionally, there are some punctuation and capitalization issues, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters. Despite these errors, the meaning is always clear, and the mistakes do not impede communication. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent capitalization, and try to vary your sentence structures further by using more advanced subordinating conjunctions.
