Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 141 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas, as the essay is incomplete and ends abruptly mid-sentence. While the writer takes a clear position, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting examples. The prompt asks for reasons and examples, but the limited length prevents a full exploration of the topic. To improve, the student must expand on their points with specific, detailed examples and ensure the essay follows a complete structure with a proper conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay attempts to use basic cohesive devices such as 'One of the major reason' and 'However', but the flow is hindered by the incomplete nature of the text. Paragraphing is present, but the abrupt ending makes it difficult to assess the overall logical progression. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the mechanical use of transition words limits the coherence. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph develops a single, clear idea that contributes to the overall argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'clothes', 'people', and 'culture'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'fashion spreate' (spread) and 'advertisements of new article of clothing'. The range is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. To improve, the student should work on using more precise vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'attire', 'societal norms', or 'individual identity', and pay closer attention to spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'Few masses claim' (incorrect usage), 'It can be showed' (passive voice error), and 'many nations people are wearing same cloth' (missing articles and pluralization issues). The sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences are often faulty. The lack of subject-verb agreement and incorrect preposition usage are consistent issues. The student needs to focus on basic sentence construction, article usage, and ensuring consistent verb tenses throughout the essay.
