Student answer (Band 6.5)
A few groups of people think that clothes selection could be the way to tell many things about an individual's culture and character. This essay will explain my disagreement with this proposition, and I will share the reasons with examples in the paragraphs.
People select their costumes as per their personality, not to represent their culture. To explain, every person has a different personality as per their physical appearance. When they buy clothes, they think about various factors such as comfort, quality, and style. For instance, when a movie fashion designer chooses their celebrity's clothes, they do not think about their culture or character; they style as per the movie scenes. As a result, no one can know about from where a celebrity belongs. Hence, it proves that the choice of clothes cannot tell about a person's culture and character.
Furthermore, people follow globalized fashion trends. To expand, due to mass production and global retail chains give identitical clothes that are followed worldwide because manufacturer produces various options that they can sell as per global recent fashion trends. For instance, nowadays in India, individuals prefer Indo-Western fashion because in the market, they could not find the options in traditional clothes. Therefore, it is hard to tell about an individual's culture and character.
In conclusion, individual's clothing choice is not way to judge person's tradition and character, as they put many factors into their choice and they follow the market trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a disagreement with the idea that clothing reflects culture and character. However, the essay falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which impacts the development of ideas. While the arguments regarding personal preference and globalized fashion are relevant, they are somewhat underdeveloped. The example of the movie fashion designer is a bit tangential and does not fully support the argument about culture. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations and ensure the essay meets the minimum length requirement to allow for a more thorough exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'To explain', and 'In conclusion' to link your points. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally slightly unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the link between movie costumes and the broader argument about culture is weak. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the overall flow could be improved by using a wider variety of cohesive devices to connect sentences more naturally rather than relying on standard signposting phrases.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'globalized fashion trends', 'mass production', and 'retail chains'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as using 'costumes' (which usually refers to theatrical or fancy dress) instead of 'clothing' or 'attire', and 'identitical' (a spelling error). The range is somewhat limited, and you rely on repetitive phrasing. To improve, try to incorporate more precise synonyms and collocations related to fashion and social identity to demonstrate a more flexible range of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as 'no one can know about from where a celebrity belongs' (awkward syntax), 'due to mass production and global retail chains give identitical clothes' (missing subject/verb agreement or incorrect preposition usage), and 'is not way to judge' (missing article). These errors do not significantly impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles would help improve your accuracy.
