Student answer (Band 7.0)
In this essay we will discuss either a person's clothing choices reflect their culture and character or not, before concluding that you cannot entirely judge someones's character based on their clothing choices. We will also discuss that by some extent clothing choices can reflect someone's culture but globalisation has eliminated the differences between cultures.
While some people might argue that the way you dress says a lot about your charater and your culture, as they way you dress is intended and it reflects how you want the world to percieve you. In many countries people still wear their cultural clothes. For example, In UAE, the men wear cloaks which represents their culture.
However, in recent ages, technology and globalisation has eliminated these differences. Now people dress up according to the trends, and usually the same trends are being followed all over the world. Regardless of the culture and character, people are following the same trends set up by influencers and celebrities. For example, In middle-east, western trends are getting followed, while their culture is to wear shalwar kameez.
Undoubtedly, your clothes are your first identity. People judge you before you speak on the basis of how you are dressed. Like someone wearing bright and radiant colors is percieved as full of life while someone wearing black and white reflects neutrality of their personality.
To sum that up, I believe that there was a time when a person's clothing used to represent his/her culture, but in today's world you can barely judge someone's culture based on their dressing due to globalisation. However, to some extent you can still judge someones's charcter and personality based on the way they choose to dress.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The essay addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that balances the influence of culture and character on clothing choices. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of traditional attire in the UAE and the impact of global trends. However, the development is somewhat limited; the argument regarding character is touched upon but could be expanded with more nuanced examples. The introduction is slightly repetitive, as it outlines the essay's structure in a way that is not strictly necessary for IELTS. Overall, the response is well-focused and maintains a consistent position throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'However', 'For example', and 'To sum that up' are used to guide the reader. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions between sentences feel slightly mechanical. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally repetitive, and the use of cohesive devices could be more varied to improve the overall sophistication of the text. Nevertheless, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'globalisation', 'neutrality', and 'influencers'. However, there are some spelling errors, such as 'charater' and 'percieve', and minor word-choice issues, such as 'by some extent' instead of 'to some extent'. The range is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score. More sophisticated collocations would enhance the quality of the writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('technology and globalisation has') and punctuation errors ('someones's'). Some sentences are slightly awkward in their construction, such as the opening sentence. Despite these errors, they do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, the writer should focus on reducing these frequent minor errors and increasing the variety of complex grammatical structures used.
