Student answer (Band 7.0)
In this modern era, it is often alleged that it is possible to know about a individual's cultural identity and personality from their clothing choices and styling sense. While, this notion holds some truth, I believe that judgements based solely on clothing sense about a person's nature can sometimes be misleading too.
There is no doubt in the fact that clothing can represent a individual's cultural roots and heritage. For instance, the traditional garments can depict the links of a person to a particular region. In countries like India, people wear kurta and pajama on festivals. This shows their respect towards their heritage and cultural values. Therefore, it is easy for others to predict their links to specific cultural roots.
Clothing can represent a lot about a person's character too. It is often believed that people who wear bright and bold designed cloths are confident and expressive in nature. However, those wearing light and neutral clothes are considered to be reserved. Since the employees working in corporate sector dress really well, it is quite reasonable to think that the people who dress neatly and exceptionally well are more organized and active in their work.
The judgements made entirely based on clothing sense can be misleading too. There can be a lot of reasons behind how a person is dressed. Sometimes their dressing sense is influenced by social media influencers and western trends. Along with this, economic instability can also be a leading factor towards their clothing. For instance, some folks wear plain clothes not because they are less creative, having insufficient funds to afford expensive dresses can be driving cause of that.
To conclude, clothing can provide judgements about a person's link to their cultural roots and heritage. However, to know entirely about their nature and personality, their actions, behavior and other personality traits should be observed.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, presenting a clear position that acknowledges the link between clothing and identity while highlighting the limitations of such judgments. The ideas are relevant and supported by examples, such as the mention of traditional Indian garments and the influence of economic factors. The argument is well-developed, with a logical flow from the cultural significance of clothing to the potential for misinterpretation. To reach a higher band, the student could further elaborate on the 'character' aspect, perhaps by discussing how professional attire might be a social requirement rather than a reflection of innate personality traits.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices such as 'For instance,' 'However,' and 'To conclude' are used effectively to link sentences and ideas. While the structure is sound, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to better integrate the discussion of culture and character. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and contributes to the clarity of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision. Phrases like 'cultural identity,' 'economic instability,' and 'personality traits' are used appropriately. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'styling sense' instead of 'sense of style' and 'bold designed cloths' instead of 'boldly designed clothes.' While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, incorporating more sophisticated collocations or less common lexical items would enhance the quality of the writing and help achieve a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'a individual's' (should be 'an individual's'), 'While, this notion' (incorrect comma usage), and 'having insufficient funds... can be driving cause' (missing article). Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout, and the mistakes do not impede communication. To improve, the student should focus on article usage and punctuation, particularly around introductory clauses, and aim for more consistent control over complex sentence structures.
