Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this ever-changing modern era, the notion related to judging an individual's nature and tradition on the basis of their dressing sense is prevailing. I completely disagree with this belief, and the reason behind this will be explained in the upcoming paragraphs.

The primary reason behind this is the spending habits of a person. In other words, some people do not prefer spending a lot on their clothes, preferring simple and comfortable attires. As a result, they might prefer upgrading their wardrobes with non-luxury clothing styles, irrespective of their status symbol. Similarly, the other section of society may be keen in showing-off and spending more money on dressing up themselves, despite their low monthly income.

The another reason is presence of sense of maturity in the nature of a person. To elaborate, many people are down to earth and possess a humble attitude toward others, no matter how they dress up. Because of this, many people can doll-up in modern and classy outfits, but display politeness and respect in their actions. Whereas, there might be many people dressed up in simple and traditional outfits, who might be rude and arrogant towards other individuals. Consequently, dressing sense may not display an exact image of person's character.

In conclusion, people supporting the above statement might argue that clothing pattern can give an early impression about the other person, making it very easy to judge an individual and begin a conversation accordingly. But, I personally believe that it is not an efficient way to understand the character and culture of others.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt clearly, taking a firm stance against the idea that clothing reflects character or culture. The ideas are relevant, focusing on financial habits and personality traits as counter-arguments. However, the development is somewhat limited; the points regarding 'spending habits' and 'maturity' are introduced but could be expanded with more specific, concrete examples to reach a higher band. The conclusion acknowledges the opposing view, which adds balance, but the overall depth of the argument remains at a standard level. The response is well-focused on the topic throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'In other words', 'Similarly', and 'Consequently' are used to link sentences, though some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is generally clear, although the connection between 'spending habits' and the broader argument about 'character' could be more explicitly stated to improve the flow of logic. Overall, the structure is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated phrasing like 'ever-changing modern era' and 'status symbol'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'dressing sense' (which is often used in Indian English but less standard in international contexts), 'doll-up', and 'clothing pattern'. While the meaning is always clear, the range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, and the use of less common items is not always precise or natural. Expanding your range of topic-specific collocations would improve this score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'The another reason is presence of sense of maturity' (missing articles and awkward phrasing) and 'dressing up themselves' (unnecessary reflexive pronoun). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher band. The control of punctuation is generally good, but the sentence variety could be improved by incorporating more sophisticated subordinate clauses to demonstrate greater flexibility.
