Student answer (Band 6.5)

A number of people believe that it would be effortless for individuals to know about person's culture through their dressing style and appearance. However, I partially agree with this view, as a certain number of people still wear their traditional attire, whereas, a number of mankind are now adopting western culture and prefer to wear stylish and trendy clothes instead of traditional one.

On the one hand, a growing number of people are still wearing heritage ensemble in order to stay connected with their roots. For instance, most of Indian women always witness in sarees and men are in kurtas, because it provides them comfort and convenience during working time and they feel more proud on themselves by carrying their history, social etiquette and identity through their outfits. Most probably Indian citizens wear it during social gatherings, family functions or sometimes light weight traditional garments daily basis. Because, it offers them sense of community, belongingness and unity. Therefore, it would be quite easy to identify their culture through their dressing choice.

On the other hand, a growing number of people in today's time are accepting western culture and love to being fancy to raise their standard of living and social status. Moreover, certain companies encourage their employees to wear formal and professional clothes in order to maintain professionalism and discipline at work place. Also, youngsters are find heavy interest towards garments like jeans, t-shirts or shirts, because it is easy to purchase from the big shopping malls and shops on a very pocket-friendly prices, which encourage them to purchase stylish clothes.

In conclusion, traditional attires is one of the best way to recognize the person's culture like Indian people. However, in every situations it could be challenging to identify their background through their dressing, as youth are adapting new trend instead of following traditional attire due to availability of comfortable and fancy clothes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as the mention of traditional attire versus the adoption of Western fashion. However, some points are slightly under-developed; for instance, the explanation of why Western clothes are preferred could be more deeply linked to the core question of whether this obscures one's 'character' or 'culture'. While the response is balanced, the development of the 'character' aspect of the prompt is less prominent than the 'culture' aspect. Overall, the task is addressed adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'most of Indian women always witness in sarees'. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the use of referencing is occasionally imprecise, which slightly affects the overall cohesion of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'traditional attire', 'social etiquette', and 'professionalism'. However, there are several instances of unnatural collocation and word choice errors, such as 'a number of mankind' (which is not idiomatic), 'heritage ensemble', and 'youngsters are find heavy interest'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your expression. To reach a higher band, focus on using more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'traditional attires is one of the best way', 'in every situations'). Additionally, there are issues with verb forms, such as 'love to being fancy' instead of 'love being fancy'. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. Increasing the accuracy of your complex structures will help improve your score in this criterion.
