Student answer (Band 5.5)

Well, every country have their own kind of clothes with their traditional meaning and every person respect of it. But, in today's world everyone wants to dress up according to their work field and sometimes they have to. I will share my opinion on that topic in next paragraphs.

First of all, every person have their right to dress like according to their will. Sometimes folks choose their clothes according to their vibe and mood and sometimes to their standard. For example, In India, their are many traditional clothes depend on the area they live. They prefer to wear the western clothes on parties, dates and other that kind of stuff. But When there is a traditional day or occasion they wear their traditional clothes like suit-salwar, kurta-pajama, etc. So, yes that define their culture on the basis of their clothes.

However, today's generation is modern and prefer to wear their choice of clothes. They are modern and and like to move forward up-to-date with everyone. That would be difficult to tell a character of a person based on their clothes. For instance, a person is from Russia and visited India , he or she dressed up in a traditional clothes of Indian culture , well can we tell the character of that person on clothes in that case? We cannot describe a character of person based on their clothes, what if they wear a borrowed suit for a day to give a interview in a company, can company tell the culture and character of that person with the help of that suit?

Anyhow, I can not conclude to a one opinion, I neither disagree nor agree with that statement.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt but fails to maintain a clear position. While you discuss both sides, your conclusion states you 'neither disagree nor agree,' which prevents the development of a consistent argument. The ideas are relevant, such as the influence of culture and professional requirements, but they are somewhat under-developed. For example, the point about a person wearing a borrowed suit for an interview is a good observation, but it is not fully linked back to the broader question of whether clothes reflect character. To improve, ensure you take a firm stance and provide more nuanced support for your arguments throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive (e.g., 'First of all', 'However', 'Anyhow'). Some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the logical flow is occasionally hindered by informal phrasing like 'that kind of stuff'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between the Russian visitor example and the conclusion about character is not explicitly stated. Improving the variety and precision of linking words would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic descriptors like 'good', 'modern', and 'stuff'. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'respect of it' instead of 'respect for it' and 'describe a character of person' instead of 'judge a person's character'. While the meaning is clear, the lack of more sophisticated or topic-specific vocabulary limits the score. Try to incorporate more precise terminology related to social identity, cultural expression, and professional presentation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('every country have', 'every person have') and article usage ('a interview'). Sentence structures are mostly simple or compound, with limited use of complex structures. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and proofreading for small errors like missing articles or incorrect prepositions.
