Student answer (Band 7.0)
People often argue that an individual's faith and personality can be guessed by their clothes. However, I do not agree with this misleading notion. I will present my opinion in this essay.
To begin with, people wear clothes according to their preferences, location, occasion, and company. It is tough to make judgements on a person's culture based on clothes. For example, an individual may choose to wear formals in meetings because that is the standard protocol worldwide. In such a scenario, it is often hard to tell a lot about the culture of that employee. Moreover, it is often observed that immigrants change their dressing style after they migrate and work for the companies in new countries as they are trying to assimilate. As a result, nobody can guess the culture of that person.
On the other hand, the choice of clothes does not guarantee high integrity in a person. A person can wear washed, ironed, expensive, and branded clothes and may still make choices which are reported as heinous crimes in the human history. For illustration, in early 2000s in BC, a professor at the famous University of British Columbia, was found to be guilty of raping 25 female students. Hence, it is ignorant to conclude that choice of clothes defines the character of a person.
In my opinion, it is the moral values of a person that can truly tell about culture and character of a human being instead of the attire. An individual's belief system is shaped by the culture one practices, and then it shapes character of that adult.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have clearly addressed the prompt by taking a firm position against the idea that clothes reflect character or culture. Your arguments regarding professional protocols and the assimilation of immigrants are relevant and well-supported. The example of the professor is a strong, albeit specific, illustration of your point. To reach a higher band, ensure that your conclusion does more than just restate your opinion; it should ideally synthesize the main points discussed to provide a more comprehensive final thought. Overall, the response is well-focused and maintains a consistent position throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use transition signals such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. To improve, try to vary your cohesive devices and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother. For instance, the transition between the discussion of immigrants and the conclusion of that paragraph could be more tightly linked to improve the overall progression of ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'assimilate', 'protocol', and 'heinous crimes' effectively. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. There are some instances where word choice could be more natural, such as 'washed, ironed' clothes, which could be replaced with more descriptive adjectives. Expanding your use of collocations and less common lexical items would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, and your grammar is generally accurate. Most sentences are error-free, which allows for clear communication. However, there are minor slips, such as 'in human history' (should be 'in history') and 'shapes character of that adult' (missing an article). To achieve a higher band, aim to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as conditional sentences or more sophisticated relative clauses, while maintaining the high level of accuracy you have already demonstrated.
