Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people said it is possible to know about ones culture and character from their choice of clothing. I strongly agree to the opinion.
Firstly, the type of clothes a person wear may show their culture at first instances without taking a guess. For example, the first time i visited Kano State, the centre of commerce. My cousin and I visited the Emir of Kano. We dressed in Igbo attire. It was from the entrance, the guards knew we are from a particular ethnic group.
Secondly, our country have dry season and rainy season. Of course, we dress according to the weather. Someone could tell about our tradition and culture. During the rainy season which it mostly windy and it rains. We cover up with extra wears like handmade wool sweaters, and caps. Also, on dry season we put on free clothing which mostly exposes our beautiful skin.
Finally, our character and tradition shapes who we are as Igbos. Most of the traditional rulers like the King, tilted men and so on represent our culture with the way they dress. The manner they carry themselves with grace, and poise will announced them. The month of August is our new yam festival at the Kings place. Last week, we witnessed a memorable event. The King and his entourage were seen in their regale and glory. It was a pleasant sight to behold. We saw different costumes representing our culture, character and tradition.
I believe almost everyone says it is possible to tell about a persons culture and character from their type of clothing.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the first paragraph provides a relevant example regarding cultural attire, the second paragraph focuses on weather-appropriate clothing, which is less relevant to the core question of 'character' and 'culture'. The final paragraph attempts to link character to traditional dress, but the connection remains somewhat superficial. To reach a higher band, the arguments need to be more consistently focused on how clothing specifically reflects personality traits or deeper cultural values, rather than just practical or seasonal choices.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Finally' are used to structure the argument. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition from weather to culture feels abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better logical progression between the ideas presented.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at using less common vocabulary, such as 'poise', 'entourage', and 'regale', which shows a good effort. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'at first instances' instead of 'at first glance' and 'will announced them' instead of 'announces them'. The range is sufficient to convey meaning, but more precise and varied vocabulary would be needed for a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('a person wear', 'our country have', 'it mostly windy') and tense inconsistencies ('will announced them'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in sentence construction that occasionally distract the reader. While the meaning is rarely impeded, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tenses would significantly improve the quality of the writing.
