Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that some individuals believe they can judge a person's culture and personality with the help of their choice of clothes. I largely agree with this statement and will explain in the upcoming paragraphs.

One of the main reasons for agreement is that individuals in every culture have different styles of wearing clothes. In some countries, people wear Western clothes and suits according to their own culture and religion. For example, in India, women wear a Punjabi suit those are belongs to Sikhs religion. Moreover, people can judge others' personality by their choice of clothes. Some individuals prefer to wear formal clothes, which indicates that they are professional, whereas some people prefer to wear comfortable clothes, which means they love to stay in their comfort zone. Hence, people can judge by their clothes to some extent.

However, nowadays the majority of young individuals are influenced by actors. They not only copy well-known personalities for wearing clothes but also follow the same hairstyle. For instance, in India, men copy Drake, who is a famous singer in the United States, and he also has his own brand. Consequently, people now wear different types of clothes, and they are not wearing clothes according to their culture, so it is hard to judge anyone by their choice of clothes.

In conclusion, although people cannot judge by their clothes, their personality can be judged by what kind of clothes they wear like a person wearing fancy clothes may have more interest in fashion than in other fields.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the cultural and personality aspects of clothing. However, the development is somewhat inconsistent. While you provide examples like the Punjabi suit and the influence of celebrities, the argument lacks depth. For instance, the conclusion contradicts the earlier position by stating 'people cannot judge by their clothes' after you initially stated you 'largely agree'. To reach a higher band, ensure your position remains consistent throughout and provide more nuanced analysis rather than just listing examples. The ideas are relevant but remain at a surface level, which limits the overall impact of your argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Consequently' to link sentences. However, some transitions feel mechanical, and the logical flow between the second and third paragraphs is slightly disjointed. The conclusion is also somewhat abrupt and does not effectively synthesize the points made in the body paragraphs. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring that each paragraph flows naturally into the next will help improve the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'professional', 'influenced', and 'personalities'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'those are belongs to' (should be 'which belong to') and 'judge by their clothes' (which is slightly repetitive). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and avoid repeating the same phrases throughout the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'those are belongs to' and 'people can judge by their clothes to some extent' (which lacks an object). There are also minor issues with article usage and verb agreement. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining complex sentence construction will help improve your accuracy.
