Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is commonly believed that people's background and personality can be recognized by what they wear. Although the majority of people nowadays are open to wear whatever they want while others in demographic areas still express their culture by wearing clothes and in some religion there are specific dress codes for whoever they believe. According to my perception, It is totally one's choice what kind of apparel they want to wear.

To begin with, foreign habits dominates the people minds a lot, where the citizens of all ages opts for it with their choice. Often it is noticed that the public judges one's character as well as the culture by seeing the clothes. For instance, college students adapt to wear western dresses as they feel it is trend setter for them but elderly people take it in a negative way and start questioning their personality as according to indecent dressing will affect next generation thinking as well. Similarly, traditional attire like sarees for Hindus, abaya for Muslims and so on depicts clearly the customs of people by seeing them.

Conversely, in my point of view, I too agree with above points to some extent but, I also feel that as a part of one's profession or maintaining one's tradition he dressing should be considered. To illustrate, in a multinational company, employees are instructed to wear a dress code, where the staff of all religions will do it as a rule. It does not mean that folks are not maintaining the dignity or heritage. Likewise, in other organizations, there is leniency that artisan is free to choose his style.

To conclude, though population think that costumes make a lot of difference in everyone's nature as well as indicates religion , I believe that as a part of the occupation and living in a secular nation, one has the authority to choose the attire but should maintain the majesty.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether clothing reflects culture and character. You provide a clear position, though the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The second paragraph touches on the influence of Western trends and traditional attire, which is relevant. However, the third paragraph regarding professional dress codes is slightly tangential, as it focuses more on workplace rules than on whether clothing reveals character. To improve, ensure that every example directly supports your stance on the link between clothing and personality. The conclusion summarizes your view well, but the overall argument could be more tightly focused on the core question of character assessment.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with,' 'Conversely,' and 'To illustrate,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical or awkward, such as 'I too agree with above points to some extent but, I also feel that...' which disrupts the flow. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly in the second paragraph where the connection between 'foreign habits' and the subsequent discussion of college students could be more explicitly linked. Improving the variety and naturalness of your linking words will enhance the overall progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'demographic,' 'traditional attire,' and 'secular nation.' However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations. For example, 'foreign habits dominates the people minds' should be 'foreign habits dominate people's minds,' and 'artisan is free to choose his style' seems out of context. The phrase 'maintain the majesty' is also an unusual choice for this context. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise vocabulary and ensuring that your word choices are natural and appropriate for the specific context of the essay.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('foreign habits dominates'), article usage ('in some religion'), and awkward phrasing ('as according to indecent dressing will affect'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are errors in comma placement and sentence structure that detract from the overall quality. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and refining your use of complex structures to ensure they are error-free. Proofreading for these recurring minor errors would significantly improve your score.
