Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that it is possible to tell a lot about an individual’s culture and character from their preference of clothes. While there are some benefits to this view, I personally believe that the given statement is not 100% logical.
To begin with, there are lot of reasons that a person has to choose a particular type of clothes. For instance, a man who is working in a corporate sector has to wear dress according to the company’s policy, whether he likes or not. So by this we could be able to find his work culture but not his personal character.
In addition to this, hip hop singers usually wear a specific dress code such as baggy jeans or lightning jackets. However, there are many singers who prefer to wear a traditional clothes when they are not performing. As a result of this, most of the time person has to choose clothing style according to his work not by preference.
On the other hand, some people choose their lifestyle based on their character and try to convert their hobby into their career, so clothes may define their character and culture. For example, soldiers always wear tidy clothes and polished shoes no matter they are on or off duty. People can assume their profession by their appearance.
To conclude, there are no such rules which can define the personality of a human being by its clothing style. I partially disagree to the statement that it is possible to know about person’s culture and character from their choice of clothes.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether clothing reflects culture and character. You provide a clear position, although the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the example of hip-hop singers is relevant but could be expanded to better illustrate the nuance of the argument. While you cover both sides of the debate, some points, such as the soldier example, are slightly underdeveloped. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting example is fully explained in relation to the core question of how clothing serves as a marker of identity versus external professional requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'In addition to this', and 'On the other hand' to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally slightly unclear, such as in the final sentence where 'its' is used to refer to 'a human being'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother flow between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of the piece.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'corporate sector', 'preference', and 'personality'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'lightning jackets' (likely meaning 'flashy' or 'vibrant') and 'wear a traditional clothes' (which should be 'wear traditional clothes'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated collocations and ensuring articles are used correctly with nouns.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'there are lot of reasons' (missing 'a'), 'wear dress' (missing 'a' or pluralization), and 'no matter they are' (missing 'whether'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are noticeable. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, article usage, and the correct formation of complex sentences. Increasing the variety of error-free complex structures will help elevate your score in this criterion.
