Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays people have unique sense of choice for the clothing. Some people argue that individual's choice of clothes can tell a lot about their culture and character. I completely agree with this notion and, I will explain my reasons in the upcoming paragraphs.
To begin with, the reason why some people believe that clothes can reveal so much about that person is because clothing can help to get insight of that person's culture. Every culture has their unique dressing code. For example, every Indian women wears saree or kurta type of clothes. However, Indian men usually wear dhoti and kurta. In contrast, in Western countries, many people wear suits, skirts and trousers. Therefore, by looking at people's clothing style, anyone can assume their background.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is only 124 words long. Consequently, the ideas are significantly under-developed. While you state your position clearly in the introduction, the essay lacks the necessary depth and breadth to fully address the prompt. You have provided a brief point about culture, but you have not explored the 'character' aspect of the prompt at all. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and relevant examples, and ensure you cover all parts of the question to reach the required length.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into an introduction and one body paragraph. While there is a basic logical progression, the lack of further paragraphs makes the overall structure incomplete. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'For example', and 'In contrast', which helps the flow. However, because the essay is so short, the development of ideas is stunted, making the overall coherence feel limited. To achieve a higher score, you need to structure your essay with a clear introduction, at least two distinct body paragraphs, and a conclusion, using a wider range of linking words to connect your ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally appropriate for the topic, such as 'unique sense', 'reveal', and 'background'. However, the range is quite limited, and there are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'get insight of' (should be 'gain insight into') and 'every Indian women wears' (should be 'every Indian woman wears'). The vocabulary is sufficient for the limited content provided but lacks the variety and precision required for higher bands. You should aim to incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary and idiomatic expressions to demonstrate a wider range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
You demonstrate a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'people have unique sense of choice for the clothing' (missing articles) and 'every Indian women wears' (subject-verb agreement error). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering basic article usage, subject-verb agreement, and pluralization. Additionally, try to incorporate a greater variety of complex sentence structures, such as conditional sentences or relative clauses, to show better control over your grammar.
