Student answer (Band 6.0)

In this fast paced growing world, teenagers prefer to try different kinds of clothes and styles which tells us about their character and culture they belong from. But, It is not necessary that we can judge anyone by seeing their style. I partially agree with this statement and will discuss my views further in this essay.

Firstly, few individuals like to wear clothes that shows their culture and tradition or where they come from. They kind of like to represent their community. For instance, I am born and brought up in India and my mom loves to wear our traditional clothes that is 'Saree' and 'Kurti' but when she has an business meeting, she have to get dressed professionally. Moreover, in many countries people are not allowed to wear short dresses or tops. And sometimes that shows their culture and diversity.

Secondly, we cannot judge somebody by the clothes they are wearing. Nowadays, men and women like to be independent and free. They want to get dressed in their own way or whatever is trending on the internet. That does not tell us how their behavior is , what their culture is, where are they from etc. For example, a student might wear casual clothes to school or college but dress formally when going for an job interview. Therefore, one outfit does not represent a person's true character.

In conclusion, I believe clothing can provide useful clues about the person's character. Nevertheless, we should try to avoid judging based on their appearance. And everyone has their choice and plans to wear they like of.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the point about cultural clothing is supported by a personal example, but the explanation of why this reflects character is thin. Similarly, the second body paragraph touches on the idea of personal freedom but could be strengthened by explaining why modern fashion choices might intentionally obscure one's background. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully explored with more depth and analytical reasoning rather than just listing examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For example, the jump from the example of your mother to the general statement about short dresses in the first body paragraph lacks a smooth connection. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one will help improve the overall cohesion of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'professional', 'independent', and 'diversity'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'belong from' (should be 'belong to') and 'get dressed in their own way'. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. To improve, try to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. Expanding your range to include more nuanced synonyms will help elevate your writing style.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues such as 'my mom... have to get dressed' (should be 'has to') and 'where are they from' (should be 'where they are from'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation errors, such as the unnecessary space before the comma in 'But, It'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic agreement and word order will significantly improve your accuracy.
