Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is always argued that a person's clothes can define their culture. I largely agree with that but I do not believe that it can give the idea od one's personality character. According to my believes no one should be judged from their clothes . I will describe my reasons for that incoming paragraphs.

First of all if we talk about clothes and culture , clothes plays a huge rule in a person's life portraying or showing their culture through them for example In India people wear saree , Kurta pjama, dhoti surta, turban , salwar kameez on festivals or on the big celebrations . I believe same goes for the other communities too. if we see a person for example in canada wearing a turban we can easily assume they are from india. on the other hand if we see a person wearing hijab we can say they belong to the muslim community.

On the other side, one's personality should not be judged from their clothes . as people wear clothes according to so many different circumstances like weather,mood,likes/dislikes,occasion, work. for instance a person who wear suit must be working in a office and likely to have a disciplined personality. but if a person wear simple clothes they can be creative . and the person who wears new fashion styles , bright colours with a different style lets a book character , they can be creative too. so there is no way a person should be judged by their clothes . because it can vary according to so many things I mentioned earlier .

In conclusion, I agree that clothing can provide valuable information about a person's culture and certain aspects of their personality . Nevertheless , it should not be used as the only basis for judging someone as it can be influenced by various factors beyond their character and cultural identity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the relationship between clothing and culture, and the relationship between clothing and character. You maintain a clear position throughout, agreeing that clothing reflects culture but disagreeing that it defines personality. The ideas are relevant, though the development is somewhat basic. For instance, the examples regarding cultural attire are clear, but the argument regarding personality could be more deeply explored with more sophisticated reasoning. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully extended and that you avoid minor contradictions, such as the slight shift in your conclusion compared to your introduction.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'First of all', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion', which help the reader follow your argument. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and sophisticated. Additionally, there are some issues with punctuation and sentence structure that occasionally disrupt the flow of ideas. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'cultural identity', 'disciplined', and 'circumstances'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'huge rule' instead of 'huge role' and 'personality character' which is redundant. You also have some spelling errors, such as 'believes' instead of 'beliefs' and 'od' instead of 'of'. To improve, focus on using more precise vocabulary and ensuring correct spelling. Attempting to incorporate more topic-specific collocations would also help elevate your score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For example, there are issues with subject-verb agreement ('clothes plays', 'person who wear'), missing articles, and inconsistent capitalization. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall fluency. To improve, pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules such as pluralization, verb conjugation, and proper sentence punctuation. Practicing the construction of complex sentences will also help you demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
