Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is believed by some individuals that it is possible to know a lot about people traditions and character from their choice of clothes. I agree with this statement, and this essay will discuss reason behind my standpoint in the upcoming parahgraphs.

To commence with, there are several reasons about why it is easier to judge a person from their choice of wearing clothes. Firstly, every culture has their own style of wearing clothes. Due to this it is easier to know about the country where the person belong and what’s would be their culture. For example, if a woman is wearing a traditional saree we can easily judge that she is from India. Because saree is the most wearable dress in India.

Moreover, different people has their own choice of wearing clothes. This tells us more about the character of an individual. For example if an individual is wearing very colorful and bright clothes. We can easily find that this particular person belongs to LGBTQ community. So, we can find about their preference and choice by their style of clothes.

To conclude it, there are many reasons why it is easier to know about culture and character from their choice of wearing dresses, such as traditional clothes tells about their country to which they belong, and the choice of wearing different kind of clothes let people know about how the person is.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt but fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you clearly state your position, the arguments are underdeveloped and rely on simplistic examples. The explanation regarding the LGBTQ community is a generalization that lacks nuance and depth. To improve, you need to expand your points with more detailed reasoning and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for a full exploration of the topic. The conclusion is also quite repetitive and does not add new insight to the discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and you use basic cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude'. However, the progression of ideas is somewhat mechanical. Some sentences are disjointed, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the transition between the discussion of culture and the discussion of character. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that your sentences flow more naturally into one another rather than relying on a rigid, formulaic structure.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. You frequently use phrases like 'choice of wearing clothes' and 'judge a person'. There is little evidence of less common or idiomatic vocabulary. To improve, try to incorporate more precise terminology related to fashion, identity, and cultural expression. For example, instead of 'judge', you could use 'ascertain' or 'infer'. Additionally, ensure you use collocations correctly; for instance, 'wearable dress' is not a natural collocation in this context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('different people has', 'traditional clothes tells') and awkward phrasing ('what’s would be their culture'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some sentence fragments appearing where full sentences are required. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and refining your use of complex sentence structures. Proofreading for minor errors will also help improve the overall accuracy of your writing.
