Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position on whether clothing reveals character and culture, supporting it with relevant examples such as regional attire in Pakistan. However, some ideas remain slightly under-developed and generalisations are broad. The introduction contains some irrelevant mechanical template phrasing ('In my essay i am going to discuss it with an example'), which detracts slightly from task focus. Nevertheless, the main parts of the task are covered sufficiently, and the position is consistent throughout. This performance aligns well with the Band 6 descriptors, where all parts of the task are addressed, though some ideas require greater depth or clarity.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow, moving from general clothing trends to specific regional and social examples in Pakistan. Paragraphing is attempted, though the main body paragraph is overly long and would benefit from being broken down into smaller thematic units. Cohesive devices are sometimes mechanical or missing, leading to choppy transitions between sentences. Pronoun referencing and punctuation are also occasionally faulty, such as missing capital letters and spacing issues. These features fit the Band 5 to Band 6 profile, leaning towards a 5.5 due to mechanical cohesion and inadequate paragraph structuring.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific words such as 'culture', 'ancestors', 'traditional clothes', and 'nawab family'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors, such as 'colection' instead of 'collection', 'appreance' instead of 'appearance', 'mode' instead of 'mood' or 'way', and 'clasess' instead of 'classes'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they recur frequently enough to prevent the score from reaching Band 6.0. The range is sufficient for basic communication, but precision and accurate spelling are lacking, placing it firmly at Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating an attempt to use varied structures (e.g., relative clauses and conditional-style observations). However, grammatical accuracy is weak. There are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people can be judge', 'every province have'), missing articles, and incorrect punctuation. Capitalisation rules are frequently ignored at the beginnings of sentences and for proper nouns ('punjab', 'sindh', 'pakistan'). These persistent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict the grammatical range and control, matching the Band 5 descriptors where frequent errors in complex structures occur.
