Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum length requirement of 250 words, containing only 154 words. This severely limits the candidate's ability to develop their position adequately, leading to an under-developed task response. Although the writer attempts to address the prompt by taking a clear position and providing some examples, such as Indian clothing styles and celebrities like Salman Khan and Brad Pitt, the ideas remain superficial and lack extension. Consequently, the task achievement is constrained by the length penalty and insufficient elaboration.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The text demonstrates some organizational structure, using basic linking words and phrases like 'first of all', 'however', and 'for example' to introduce points. However, paragraphing is poorly handled, with a lack of clear separation between distinct ideas and introduction elements run together. Cohesive devices are sometimes used mechanically or inaccurately, and the lack of overall length prevents the establishment of a smooth progression of ideas throughout the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The lexical resource is limited and basic, with frequent spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'belive', 'reprecent', 'globlalization', 'diffrent', 'pent', 'lether', 'thier', 'charecter', 'cout', 'wearm', 'nowday', 'choise', and 'bradpitt'. While the candidate attempts to use some topic-related vocabulary like 'globalization', 'culture', and 'fashion', the high frequency of spelling mistakes and basic word choices restricts the score to the lower bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The student uses a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on simple sentences with frequent structural errors. There are numerous punctuation and capitalization errors, such as starting sentences with lowercase letters ('however', 'first of all', 'for example'). Complex structures are rarely attempted and, when used, are inaccurate, such as in 'this is 21th century we lived in globlalization world wear people carry diffrent style'. Frequent errors impede readability and understanding.
