Student answer (Band 6.0)
A section of soceity argue that clothes express an individual's culture and character, whereas, others consider that choice of an individual's clothes does not reflect the culture and character. I consider that choice of clothing represents someone's culture, but cannot disclose a person's character. This essay will examines the related factor around this opinion.
Without a doubt, cultures are defined mainly by rituals, clothes and festivals. For instance, males in the Middle East wear Dish Dasha, while males in the USA wear western clothing. Similarly, certain festivals have their own dress codes. A case in point is Eid festival, where people usually put on traditional islamic clothes. Therefore, culture is usually reflected through the clothes people are wearing.
However, charactor is usually defined by the values a person stands for; it is reflected through the demeanour, ethics and moral grounds of someone. For example, an individual cannot be classified having a solid charactor only on the basis of the branded clothes he is putting on. Furthermore, charactor is also defined by empathy, respect, and behaviour towards the society. Someone wearing nice clothes bought by the money earned through illicit and illegal means doesn't change that persons charactor. As a consequence, charactor is an internal virture of a person's attitude and behaviour, which can not be read through the clothes a person is wearing.
On balance, it is broad consensus that clothes represent a particular culture, festival and ritual. However, a person's charactor is reflected through his behaviour. It can be easily said that clothes represent external values of human, like culture, whereas, charactor shows internal intangible values of a person behavior.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on whether clothes reflect culture and character. The viewpoint is generally maintained throughout, with the writer agreeing regarding culture while disagreeing regarding character. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the argument about culture is supported by clear examples such as 'males in the Middle East wear Dish Dasha' and festival dress codes. In contrast, the exploration of character tends to rely on repetition rather than deeper extension, showing characteristics of a solid response that bridges two levels of development. To reach a higher tier, the ideas concerning character would need more thorough elaboration and deeper insight rather than restating the same premise.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Each paragraph has a clear central topic, such as cultural representation in the second paragraph and internal virtues in the third. Cohesive devices are used adequately, with transition markers like 'For instance', 'Furthermore', and 'On balance' guiding the reader through the argument. However, referencing and cohesion can occasionally feel somewhat mechanical, as seen in the slightly formulaic opening and closing transitions. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, but achieving a higher band would require more seamless and flexible cohesive relationships that do not draw attention to themselves.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating sufficient range to discuss cultural dress and personal traits. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'demeanour', 'illicit', and 'internal virtue'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, including 'soceity' instead of 'society', 'examines' instead of 'examine' in the introduction, and the frequent misspelling of 'charactor' instead of 'character'. While these vocabulary and spelling errors do not seriously impede communication, they reflect the limitations of this level. To improve further, the writer must eliminate spelling inaccuracies and demonstrate more precise control over less common lexical items and collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures appropriately in sentences like 'A case in point is Eid festival, where people usually put on traditional islamic clothes.' There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('classified having a solid charactor'), incorrect verb agreement ('This essay will examines'), and slightly awkward prepositional usage. Crucially, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear. The grammar shows a solid foundation with intermittent mistakes rather than persistent breakdown, but to achieve a higher score, the student would need to produce a higher frequency of error-free complex sentences with tighter control over articles and verb forms.
