Student answer (Band 4.5)

The world is very large there are so many cultures that people belong to different culture snd community. most of the say that it is possible to tell a lot about a person’s culture and character from their choice of clothes. According to me, it is kot possible yo tell about culture and character from their choice of clothes. I am disagree with this given statment.

To begin with, in this modern era people wear different types of clothes. people going one country to snother country for different porpose like study and work. when people go to different country the start follow to the different culture and their style of wearing clothes. some people love to wear small clothes such as in canada people wear short clothes this does not make sences that their charatcer is not good.

Moreover, in some countries people dont have good fashionable clothes some people like to stay simple for example in india women wear punjabi clothes that means the follow tradition of their country and stay simple at home and out side of country . The style of wearing clothes not tell their character.

in conclusion, i think clothes can not tell the character and culture of people. it is wish of people what that want to wear.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response sits at this band because it addresses the task only partially. First, it is important to note the length requirement: the student's response contains 186 words, which is well short of the 250-word minimum (29 words copied from the task prompt were not counted). Consequently, the length requirement was not met. Furthermore, the position is stated in the introduction, but the ideas presented in the body paragraphs remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the argument regarding people moving to countries like Canada and wearing short clothes is simplistic and does not adequately explain how character or culture is perceived. To move to a higher band, the writer must meet the minimum word count and extend their arguments with fully developed explanations and relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response demonstrates some organisation through basic cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion', placing it at this level. However, there is no clear overall progression of ideas, and transitions between sentences feel mechanical rather than naturally flowing. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal logical flow of the body paragraphs is frequently disrupted by repetitive phrasing and weak referencing. For example, sentences like 'when people go to different country the start follow to the different culture' lack clear cohesive ties to what precedes them. To achieve a higher band, the writer needs to ensure ideas progress logically from one sentence to the next and employ a wider range of cohesive devices with greater accuracy.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, reflecting this band level. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'traditional' and 'fashionable', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and spelling, such as 'kot', 'yo', 'porpose', and 'charatcer'. Additionally, expressions like 'small clothes' and 'stay simple' demonstrate a restricted lexical range that causes some difficulty for the reader. To improve, the writer should build a wider bank of topic-related vocabulary, pay closer attention to word forms and collocations, and practice accurate spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response features a very limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences, while attempts at more complex structures are frequently faulty. There are persistent, frequent errors in basic grammar, including verb forms, tense consistency, articles, and prepositions inside grammatical patterns. For example, sentences such as 'people going one country to snother country' and 'women wear punjabi clothes that means the follow tradition' highlight a lack of control over basic clause structures and subject-verb agreement. Punctuation is also erratic, with missing capital letters at the beginning of sentences and proper nouns. To reach a higher band, the writer must demonstrate control over a mix of simple and complex sentence forms with fewer basic errors.
