Student answer (Band 5.5)
Many people believe that a person's culture and character can be seen from their choice of clothes. I am totally disagree with this view point because clothes can saw some clues, but we cannot judge everything from only clothes. So, I will discuss this essay in the following paragraphs.
This paragraph will describe the demerits of judging culture and character from person's clothes. To begin with, clothes do not always show real character because nowadays, majority of people wear clothes only for fashion and trends. For instance, a person may wear fancy clothes but he behave badly. So, clothes cannot prove good or bad character. Seconly, many people wear clothes for fashion, not culture. For example, a teenager my wear western clothes like jeans and t-shirts even they come from traditional family they are more connected by the trends not a culture.
Moreover, this thing give another point is that, people may wear certain clothes due to money because in our country there are large number of people are poor. For example, if a person may wear simple clothes because they cannot afford expensive and branded clothes. So, we should not judge them through their clothes.
On the other hand, this paragraph will discuss the merits of judging culture and character by person's clothes. To begin with, clothes can show personal style and taste. For example, if person always wear clean and matching clothes, it shows the person's choice and taste and also shows the person's knowledge about the clothes. Secondly, clothes also helps to show culture because In India, most of the older people wear saree, kurta or dhoti. For instance, if a Indian person go abroad and he wear kurta-paijama. So, it very easy for other countries people to know their culture very easily.
In conclusion, we can guess someting from clothes, such as, culture or style, but we cannot be sure about their charachter. So, only clothes cannot identify the person's culture and character.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position that challenges the idea that character and culture can be determined by clothing choices. Main ideas are introduced, but some are more fully developed than others. For example, the argument regarding fashion trends is supported with clear points about teenagers and western clothing, whereas the section addressing financial constraints is somewhat brief and under-developed. Relevant examples from general knowledge and experience are included throughout, such as mentioning older people wearing sarees or kurtas in India, which helps support the overall discussion adequately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance maintained throughout the response. Paragraphing is utilised to separate distinct points, such as discussing the demerits of judging character through clothes in the second paragraph and the merits in the fourth paragraph. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, particularly in the reliance on formulaic transitional phrases like 'To begin with,' 'Secondly,' and 'For example' to structure almost every paragraph. Referencing is generally functional, but overall progression can occasionally feel slightly disjointed due to repetitive introductory clauses.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used provides an adequate range for the task, allowing the writer to communicate their ideas sufficiently. There are noticeable attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'demerits,' 'branded clothes,' and 'personal style,' but these are sometimes accompanied by word choice and word form errors, such as 'I am totally disagree' instead of 'I totally disagree' or 'saw some clues' instead of 'show some clues.' Spelling is generally clear, though minor slips occur, and while these errors do not impede communication, they reflect an adequate rather than fully controlled lexical range.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures can occasionally be faulty. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('a Indian person,' 'other countries people'), incorrect verb forms ('he behave badly,' 'person always wear'), and run-on structures or comma splices ('So, it very easy'). Despite these frequent minor slips, the meaning remains mostly clear and communication is rarely impeded, representing a standard blend of error-prone simple structures and developing complex patterns.
