Student answer (Band 6.5)

Many people think that, choice of dressing is the most important indicator for understanding a person's culture and character. I completely agree with this statement and shall explain it with credible examples.

To begin with, many people dress according to their culture and tradition to enhance cultural awareness and built strong inter-generational relationship across various generations. In many developing countries like India, people often style their clothing according to various cultural and traditional festivals to strengthen the inter-generational gap. For instance, wearing traditional outfits on festivals such as Diwali, Ganpati not only enhances cultural awareness among the generations, but aslo strengthen the family bonds and cultural integrity.

Moreover, wearing different kinds of outfits also gives a considerable information about a person's character. If a person is wearing modern clothes, it clearly shows their liberal thinking and a extrovert personality, whereas someone chooses to wear a traditional attire have a introvert and shy personality. For instance, owing to western way of living in recent years due to modernization and urban style of living, many people who live in urban cities have adapted to western culture and their style of clothing has considerably changed due to westernization, whereas people living in rural areas still adapt traditional style of clothing.

To sum up, although understanding a person's cultural roots and inherent character have various aspects such as liberal thinking, kindness and empathy, I completely agree that the choice of clothing is an important parameter in understanding a individuals culture and heritage as well as their personality.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you agree that clothing can reveal culture and character. You address both aspects and support them with relevant examples, including traditional dress at Diwali and Ganpati and differences between urban and rural clothing. This gives the response a solid, relevant foundation. However, some claims are too broad or insufficiently explained. For example, you suggest that modern clothing indicates liberal, extroverted character while traditional clothing indicates shyness; clothing alone cannot reliably establish these traits, and the reasoning needs qualification or stronger support. The discussion of cultural identity is more convincing than the discussion of character. Develop that second point with a more balanced example to make the argument more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “To sum up” make the progression easy to follow, and the examples are placed alongside the points they support. This is coherent and generally well organised. Some connections are less clear within the paragraphs, however. The claim that festival clothing strengthens an “inter-generational gap” conflicts with the intended idea of bringing generations closer, and the relationship between urban clothing and character is not fully explained. The repeated use of “whereas” also makes the contrast feel somewhat mechanical. Use clearer references and vary the ways you connect examples to your main claims.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “cultural awareness,” “traditional attire,” “modernization,” and “westernization,” which helps you discuss clothing and identity. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “considerable information” and “inherent character.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, and a few errors affect clarity: “strengthen the inter-generational gap” appears to mean “bridge the generational gap,” while “a considerable information” is not idiomatic. “Adapted to western culture” would be more naturally expressed as “adopted aspects of Western culture.” Spelling slips such as “aslo” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations rather than adding formal-sounding words where a simpler phrase is clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “whereas” and “although,” and most of your meaning remains clear. The sentence beginning “To sum up” shows an attempt to handle a more complex concluding structure. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly with articles, agreement, and verb forms. For example, “a extrovert personality” and “a introvert and shy personality” need the article “an”; “a person's cultural roots and inherent character have” has a subject–verb agreement problem; and “not only enhances … but also strengthen” should keep the verb forms parallel. The opening phrase “Many people think that, choice…” also has faulty punctuation and sentence construction. Review article use and agreement, then proofread complex sentences for parallel forms.
