Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is believed by some that an individual's cultural and character traits can be identified from the clothes they choose to wear. I completely agree with the statement as a person's cultural roots and professionalism influences the choices they make for clothing. This essay will give relevent reasons to support this view.

To begin with, the first key point to consider is that cultural identity and roots play a huge role in an individual's choice of clothes. This is primarily because some people are extremely connected to their roots, traditions and values and they stick to the clothing standards set in their community. As a result, their appearence reflects about the cultural values and society they belong to. For example, India is a diverse country and its different communities reflect various kinds of clothing styles. This demonstrates that choice of clothes tells us about someone's cultural identity.

Another important factor to support this view is professionalism and social dress codes. To further explain, the way a human being dresses on different occasions shows character traits like self discipline, respect and ambition. Consequently, someone dressed well will be more respected in the society. For instance, an interviewee going to attend his interview will be expected to be dressed in a professional manner as it will be taken a first impression by the interviewer. This demonstrates that dressing properly defines character of an individual.

In conclusion, I believe that professionalism and cultural roots a

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree that clothing can reveal cultural roots and professionalism. The two body paragraphs give relevant reasons, and the examples of clothing traditions in India and interview attire help illustrate them. However, the response develops the cultural point more convincingly than the claim about character. The interview example explains expectations in a professional setting, but it does not fully show how clothing reliably reveals traits such as ambition or self-discipline. The conclusion is also cut off, so it does not complete the argument. The response is 242 words, below the required 250. To strengthen the response, develop the limits of what clothing can tell us and finish with a complete conclusion that restates your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion beginning to restate your view. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin with,” “Another important factor,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. The examples are placed alongside the points they support, which helps the reader understand the argument. However, some linking language is repetitive and formulaic: both body paragraphs end with “This demonstrates,” and several transitions announce points rather than showing the relationship between them. The final sentence is incomplete, which disrupts the ending and leaves the essay without a fully rounded conclusion. Use more varied referencing and linking, and ensure the final paragraph completes the line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “cultural identity,” “traditions and values,” “professionalism,” and “social dress codes.” These phrases help communicate the main ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal wording, such as “an individual’s choice of clothes,” although some combinations are unnatural or imprecise. For example, “reflects about the cultural values” would be more naturally expressed as “reflects cultural values,” while “taken a first impression” does not convey the intended meaning idiomatically. Spelling errors such as “relevent” and “appearence” also affect accuracy. Build precision by learning common collocations and checking spelling, while avoiding repeated general phrases such as “This demonstrates.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses beginning “because,” “as,” and “as a result.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly, and the essay shows some control of longer structures. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “cultural roots and professionalism influences,” the compound subject requires “influence.” The phrase “someone dressed well will be more respected” is grammatically possible but makes a broad claim; a more carefully qualified construction would improve control. The final sentence, “I believe that professionalism and cultural roots a,” is incomplete and prevents the conclusion from being grammatically finished. To improve further, check subject–verb agreement and make sure every sentence, especially the final one, has a complete clause.
