Student answer (Band 4.5)

In recent years, the issue of judging has become a topic of considerable debate and widespread discussion in society. Some people argue that it is quite easy to form an opinion about a person's culture and character from their choice of clothes. I firmly believe that a person sense of clothes can tell about the background of them. I completely agree with this view because people wear clothes according to their cultural traditions and personal preferences.

To begin with, one of the most compelling reason to support this opinion is people dressing sense can help others to judge them. This is mainly because a person can wear clothes related to their thinking about their culture. In other words, an open-minded person also wear traditional clothes in the festivals. A clear example of this can be seen in festivals where individuals wore clothes such as saree, kurta-pajams which reflects their culture. As a result, this not only helps others to find out about their background, but also plays a vital role in judging them.

In addition to that, another equally important factor is that individuals also identify character of the person by their clothes. Moreover, if a person wear short dresses, another person judge them with bad reviews and vice-versa.This, in turn, encourages people to make an opinion easily and promotes a wrong decision based on clothes. For instance, an appropriate dress will not tell about human behaviour and their character. Therefore, it is evident that dressing sense will not tell about the person character and their works.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that it is possible to tell a lot about a person's culture and character from their choice of clothes. This is because it offers a wide range of advantages, including behaviour and mentality.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You state a clear position in the introduction and conclusion, agreeing that clothing can reveal culture and character. The example of sarees and kurtas at festivals is relevant to cultural identity. However, the response addresses the task only minimally because the reasoning is limited and sometimes contradicts your stated view. For example, you say clothing helps people judge character, but then write that “an appropriate dress will not tell about human behaviour and their character.” The claim that clothing offers “a wide range of advantages” is also unclear and does not answer the question directly. Develop each reason with a clear explanation and a specific example, and make sure your supporting points consistently reinforce your position. The length requirement is met; 26 words copied from the task prompt were not counted.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

Your response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and phrases such as “To begin with” and “In addition to that” signal the start of new points. However, ideas are not arranged coherently within the body paragraphs: the second paragraph first claims clothes reveal character, then argues that dress cannot reveal behaviour, without explaining how these ideas fit together. Some linking phrases, including “This, in turn” and “Therefore,” connect sentences mechanically rather than clarifying the reasoning. References such as “them” and “this” are sometimes vague, making it harder to follow what is being discussed. Organise each paragraph around one consistent reason, explain it in a logical sequence, and use clear references to the people or ideas you mean.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “cultural traditions,” “personal preferences,” “traditional clothes,” and “open-minded,” which helps communicate the general subject. There is also an attempt to use more formal expressions such as “compelling reason” and “plays a vital role.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or awkward, sometimes making the intended meaning difficult to understand. For example, “a person sense of clothes” and “dressing sense can help others to judge them” are not natural ways to express your ideas, while “bad reviews” does not fit the context of judging someone’s character. Aim for precise collocations and avoid repeating “clothes” and “judge” by using suitable alternatives such as “attire,” “dress,” or “form an impression.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, using structures such as “because” and “if,” and the overall message can usually be understood. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence construction, agreement, articles and punctuation. Examples include “one of the most compelling reason” (plural agreement), “an open-minded person also wear” (subject–verb agreement), and “if a person wear” (verb form). The sentence beginning “A clear example…” also runs into the next sentence without a space after “culture.” These recurring errors make some sentences difficult to follow. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and verb forms, and check sentence boundaries and punctuation. Build more varied sentences, but prioritise making each structure accurate.
